Nar is now on Twitter. Again! The third time's the Charm!

It appears The National Association of Realtors (NAR) is making some moves on twitter (not this | account) The recent March 2nd announcement on NAR's Real Estate Blog mentioned that they are taking a customer service approach to their new Twitter account and that they would start responding to questions from both customers. No mention if they reach out to consumers as well. Visit NAR's Twitter account.

"Many of our customers and Realtor Bloggers have been asking us if we are going to setup a Twitter account, and we listened..."

In February, in regards to their other twitter account, Dean Guadagni wrote a nice little Twitter strategy guide for NAR about it on deansguide.com which follows NAR's followers, so to speak. update.

Here was Todd Carpenter's reply to Dean's post.

"The reason why NAR is not re-following or proactively following Twitter users/NAR members on this account is because it’s been a bit of an experiment. To date, most of the content is auto-generated from various data feeds that NAR provides."

The move follows Todd Carpenter being recently named NAR's new Social Media Director.

So with their recent moves on twitter, do you feel, as a paying member of NAR that they are going in the right direction and earnestly looking for feedback from their members? Does their recent move into twitter give you more confidence with their services or with their understanding of social media in 2009? Tell us your thoughts. It certainly seems like they are making genuine attempts to improve their standing online, with customers and with their members. Hopefully this trend will continue.

They're going to have to dedicate someone to the account to keep it fresh and relative. If they just post to it once a week it may gather a lot of followers, but won't be of much value.

Think internet in the mid 1990's - many jumped on with websites, but were really clueless what to do with them.

I actually saw this last night on their site I was looking for something else and saw it but my first throught was whats the point of following them theres no way they would follow back. I guess maybe I was wrong?

I was going to write a post about something that I know everyone complains about but there seems to be a real lack of resources that the NAR offers free to its members to use. Im sure you got that email blast about the free stuff and then if you went to it there is only one single thing thats free and on top of that they require it to be shipped! Are they crazy? What a waste of money. It was some sort of stupid thing that could easily have been downloaded. They are really technically inept.

Man, had a hard time getting here to thank you for the post, glad to see Todd getting to do the things that will make NAR Realtor friendly, hope AR doesn't have a problem with this post!

Hi Shane, They don't follow a lot of people as dean has mentioned, but hopefully this trend will change. In their defense, it is however something other companies also tend to do. Not sure what the reason behind it is however. Todd has shown himself very knowledgeable in social media so hopefully he'll follow the advise of dean and others to follow those who follow them. It's proper twitter etiquette.

Hi Drew, despite having an account himself, todd may also be in charge of this account. It appears based on the background picture though that a certain Audie Chamberlain is the twitterer for the new account.

Steve, well lol we didn't give an opinion other than saying it appears they are going in the right direction so not sure what they would have a problem with. Can't control the comments though. We're just hoping more people follow them on twitter.

I just hit the follow button! Thanks for the information. I hope the do listen to the members and give regular updates! It looks as if they may have several "tweeters" on one account, which could be a positive step. (The Twitter account said "Debbie was on duty".

Castellum - we were already following Todd, but now are following the new NAR twitter account and the older one too. Whether or not they are going in the right direction, I guess they have nowhere to go but up !!!! So, seems like a good move. As Kristen mentioned, one can always learn a lot just by coming by your blog !!! Rock on !
