Rising Above Adversity to a Happy and Full Life: Shooting victim Heather Grossman helps others see beyond life's struggles

After showing a brief video clip from Dateline's coverage of Heather Grossman's extreme story of domestic violence and survival, Ms. Grossman graced the Nouveau Riche Community stage at the August 2007 College. She offered these simple words with immense meaning: "My name is Heather Grossman and I'm here to motivate you!"

I have not read the reference you gave; I am a survivor and I know the story.

I volunteer my services/experience to those in need, collect and donate items needed by those "escaping" their environment without being able to bring a suitcase and prove every day of my life that I am not a punching bag and will not accept abuse from anyone (comes in very handy in real estate!).

If anyone reading this is involved in an abusive relationship, feel free to reach out to me...I'm listening if you are.

Great post on a very important topic.  I recently have gotten very involved in our local Domestic Violence Shelter and program.  We are sponsoring a fashion show in April and all the proceeds go to the domestic violence shelter.  We are using local consignment shops to show all ladies that you can look great on a budget.  The community response has been amazing - we have gotten all food, location, clothes, hair and makeup artists, decorations, and everything else donated by great people!  This shelter is adding on 6 new bedrooms which breaks my heart that they need them.  I have taken on those bedrooms as a community staging project in the fall and I am really looking forward to it.  There is so much need and the community is really getting excited about it.  Thanks for drawing attention to this very worthwhile topic.
