Where did this come about?  Why do have to set our time back and forth?  I totally can live with the time schedules of Daylight Savings.  Who can't?  Long days with sunshine and more light.  My house welcomes late nights outside with open arms.  I think it would even help in the winter months.  And it will take me at least a week to adjust to the new time schedule.

Daylight savings time started in 1918 and last for 1 year as a wartime measure.  The nation did this to decrease fuel use in households and redirect it to the war efforts.  It was reintroduced in 1943 until 1945.  This time it was to support WWII.

That's how it started but why do we go back and forth?  Why wouldn't we want to conserve energy and utilities all the time?  I assume with this thought process that use less utilities in winter.  We want to maximize the time people are up in relation to light.  And I think this does it.

I would like us to revisit year round daylight savings time.  In the U.S., the country observed year round daylight saving time from 1974 to 1975.  It ended in controversy.  It was said to be too dangerous for children to walk to school in the winter mornings.  It's something to think about.  And it would make those long winter nights a little more tolerable.

Kim,  I too agree with year round daylight savings time.  Just set the time and leave it.  In regards to when school starts, I think all school children should go to school later in the day.  Countless studies have shown that children perform better later in the day.  Now that my kids are grown, I can just imagine how less stressed our family life would have been had school not started till say 10:00.  Lack of sleep attributes to a variety of different health issues as well.
