Fishin’ Opener Weekend at the Cyber-Codger Lodge.

Cyber Codger-Lodge Close™ © 2007 Codger™ ImagesHere we are again, at the “Cyber-Codger Lodge” on Cyberlake Superior, getting ready for another day of great fishin’ (except Jay, who is hopeless as a fisherman).

The weather, as always computer climate controlled, is great. We have our rented deep-water fishing boat, already stocked with our tackle, lunches, cooler for liquid refreshments, and of course a large insulated coffee carafe for the before-noon pick me up!

We’ve remembered everything! Wait—there is just one more thing:

Mother's Day Greeting

What a great Mothers Day Card!

Lets go fishing! I've only been surf fishing, never been out in the great lakes fishing before, I hope I catch a big fish! Do we need cyber sun screen?

I've fished on Lake Erie.  Isn't Lake Superior super mega deep?  Isn't that where the Edmund Fitzgerald sank?

Good morning, and thank you!  My Mom is going to be here later from Tennessee, so it's a good Mother's Day for me.  Little One gave me a card made from construction paper and yarn.  I love it!

Lysa, I am seriously pale.  I'll need that cyber sun screen and a big ol' sombrero, too.

Happy Mothers Day Sarah! Being as we're in a cyber world I wasn't sure if we had to worry about cyber sun screen? In the RW I try to wear it all the time when we're out and about on the bike.

Thank you for the Mother's Day wishes!   I will head to the golf course, of course.   It's a beautiful but cool day in New England.   I'm really hoping to have Carnac posted this evening.

Christina: Thank you.

Lysa: No sunscreen required on the cyber-lake.

Peep: The Big Lake, named by the voyageurs “le lac supérieur, or “Upper Lake,” because it was above Lake Huron, and the Ojibwe (Chippewa) called it, “Gichigami,” meaning “big water,” has a surface area of 31,820 square miles, a maximum depth of 1,333 feet, and an average depth of 483 feet [Wikipedia]. The Edmund Fitzgerald sunk in Canadian waters of Lake Superior in 530 feet of water, November 10, 1975, near Whitefish Bay on the eastern end of the lake [Wikipedia].

Sarah: Aren’t those the best cards?

Linda: May you have a bogey-less day! No Chant this month.

Thanks!!! Codgers for the thought.  Everyone is meeting at my place today.  Wait.  Why am I cooking????  Something is wrong with this plan.

I love lake fishing.  Of course, I love pond fishing, ocean fishing, stream fishing.  If I had my way, there'd be fish in the roadside ditch in front of my house.

Sarah, me too, that's what drew me back! Now I'm going to have the song The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald in my head all day, I love that song!

Amazing facts on the lake! Chris I think they do...

To All: Some more information on the Real World Lake Superior:Edmund Fitzgerald

Wisconsin DNR’s “Environmental Education for Kids” answers the “tide” question, no tide, but a periodic raising and lowering of the water due to a phenomenon called “seiche”, “This happens when water piles up on one side of the lake because of wind or high barometric pressure and then shifts back to the other side. Small seiches occur all the time, but sometimes strong ones can cause ships to bang together in harbors, or leave them high and dry for a few minutes.” [Environmental Education for Kids] This site also answers other questions asked by our Gentle Readers (including fish species found in the lake). Some of the statistics differ from those given by Wikipedia.

The “Twin Ports” of Duluth, MN & Superior, WI, are the 18th largest ports in the United States, handling 40 million metric tons annually. [Duluth Seaway Port Authority]

George: I kinda wanted to offer up the curiosity of Minnesota's traditional fishing opener being the same weekend as Mother's Day, along with a sincere wish for all the AR mothers, we got no takers on the fishing opener.

Craig: The "plough shares" are outdated now. Our blog has changed considerably since we joined--we found our voice. I guess we staged ourselves just a bit.

Good evening Codgers!  Thanks for the lovely wishes.  The day was good!

I love the fact that Lenn loves fishing.  I went fishing once as a teen and my line got stuck behind me in the trees.  I'm hopeless.  I'll sit and chat with Jay instead.

I thought along the same line as Lysa about the song.  I'll be humming it now.  I enjoyed the history.

I'm heading over to Carnac's.  Yippeeeee!
