You Want Free Gas?

If you have a drivers license, you know that around the United States we are seeing a huge increase in gas prices.  CNN said that it is going to be over $4.00 a gallon soon.

We have all also seen the stores offering "gas incentives".  A couple of places in Columbus, OH are cheaper than others with Costco in the Polaris Area usually being a few cents below that rest of the area. 

The best deal for our family has been Giant Eagle.  For every $50 we spend on groceries, we get $.10 off per gallon.  Sometimes there are promotions and you will get $.20 off per gallon.  You can save up the "savings" and spend it when you want.  I usually wait until I have about $2.00 off per gallon.

In addition to the offers, there are also restrictions .  What offer doesn't have them, right??  At Giant Eagle, you can only get up to 30 gallons at the discount price and you can only fill up one vehicle.

One Vehicle?  My car only hold 15 gallons, so every time I fill up, I am leaving 15 gallons unused and lost !!!!!  No Fair !!!!

So here is the tip.  I have done this about 7-8 times right in front of the employees.  Is it within the rules?  I don't know.  Nobody has ever said a word.

Fill up the gas cans.  I have 15 gallons of gas cans in the garage and use them for the other 15 gallons that my tank won't hold.

Don't buy those gas cans new at the store.  You can buy gas cans at the store, but it will take a fill up or two to pay them off.  I'd check out a couple of local garage sales and get them for $1 each.

I had an opportunity to spend the summer in Northern Ohio.  I had a giant eagle card and got discounted gas!  LOL  I need to be looking at tradin the Caddie in on a Prius, me thinks.

You know Rich I one of those folks that never look at gas prices. I just pump and pay. Well yesterday it took $75.00 to ALMOST fill up my expidetion!!! So I looked, 2.99 per. Luckily I don't drive that much so this tank should last me a week.  I do love your idea with the gas cans.

I think I'm going to get a bike....with pedals on it, not a hog.  Put a basket in the front and I can carry my laptop to appointments.  Yikes.

Rich (and everyone else), don't overlook the fire hazard of gasoline.  You are taking a certain chance when you store gasoline, even in approved containers, in your garage, especially if the garage is attached to your house. 

There are also very dangerous fumes when you transfer gasoline from the container into your car.  A light switch or static discharge can generate a small spark that can set the fumes off explosively.  Trust me on this - I worked in an oil company for fourteen years and have seen some results of mishandled gasoline by consumers.

Thanks for the caution Brian.  Yes.  People should be careful with gas.

The way we keep this from being an issue is to buy the gas and put it in "approved containers".  We try to be strategic about when we buy, making sure that both cars are about empty.  Then when we get home with our haul, I can fill up the other car and empty the cans.  Out on the driveway is where I do it where there is a little breeze and open air.  Better to disapate fumes.  That point is well taken.

While I wouldn't suggest doing this while smoking, I worry about it as much as I do walking across the street and getting hit by a bus.  I'm sure it could happen, but I'll play those odds.

We are all smart and careful people, right?  We passed the State Real Estate Exam, didn't we?

I am making a little fun, but it is very important to be cautious.

Our gas prices are at $3.49 a gallon - and we drive a lot to show homes - makes you want to charge a buyer a retainer or fuel surcharge fee

I haven't seen any incentives around here. I usually go to Sams Club since I have to buy premium and need to save as many pennies as I can!

I like that story better than the two previous. I think it should earn you $600.00. Anyway, take the savings and buy stamps, then you get DOUBLE savings! Like double coupons at Ralph's.
