Wait! Wait! Before going on a David Patterson rampage, PLEASE READ THE LETTER!

Dear Commenter #44:

(That number is very ironic for this letter.)

Hopefully, this letter finds you in good spirit and health. I am not known for my letter writing. However, I was moved to share some words with you.

Debra Brooks is a well-respected member of the ActiveRain Community. She has been willing to share many thoughts about her profession and her personal views. For that, she should be commended and praised.

During my evening email-reading ritual, I came across a FEATURE NOTIFICATION about a post by Debra. Unfortunately, attached to this post were some comments about Debra's character.

"When I read bias propaganda like this, the only thing I can think about the author is "uneducated redneck." - Commenter #44

Normally, I do not read political blog posts that are written by anyone. However, this post became required reading after reviewing your comments.

FIRST.........In fairness, let me address Debra's post.

There shouldn't be any surprise to read the following words. I AM A FAN OF PRESIDENT OBAMA! With that said.....here's my opinion of the post.

I just wrote a post about the upcoming 180 days. In many ways, the context of that post jives with Debra's letter. At times, the iceberg in the desert analogy has some truth to it.

HOWEVER.....I agree with you as well. "It took eight years of bad policy, miss management (by the way....."miss" should only have ONE "S") and down right fraud to get to this point."

Some would (and should) argue this other possibility. These bad policies could cover more than eight years.

Here's the real point! Regardless of your political beliefs, everyone has a right to their opinion. If we cannot come together as Americans and address these problems over "COMMON GROUND" and through HEALTHY DEBATE, The Great Experiment could be dying before our very eyes.

That's hard to write. It's harder to believe. However, no one believes most unbelievable events can happen until the occurrence of the event.

We must get past the name calling and rhetoric.

"Can we all just get along? Can we get along?" Our future may depend upon the answer to those questions.

Thanks for Reading!

Davie, so it's commenter #44 huh? All I know is that the person is from Texas and ashamed to be from the same state I'm from. LOL.

Thanks for your post. I really appreciate the support. I just couldn't believe that over a lousy differing of opinion that a person would stoop so low as to enter into name calling!

I am laughing out loud really. I simply wrote a letter from my heart wishing all people could receive some relief in these very tough times. I could get into the details of debate but that isn't why I wrote it. I wrote the letter because I can identify with their pain. I am trying each and every day for two short sales in my inventory. We have 30 days left on one. I can't seem to get a "stay of execution" for the people who are trying so very hard to be responsible citizens without simply walking away from the debt! You would think something like that would count.

I am simply going to keep doing what I'm doing and I thank you for your kind words. I guess if I'm a redneck then I'm proud of it. LOL

You're a friend for sure,

Deb

Hmm, wasn't there a big todo a few years ago when one of the Dixie Chicks made a comment about President Bush and being ashamed of being from the same state he was from?  Or something like that?  Okay, sorry just trying to lighten the mood. :)

David,

Way to go!  Maybe commenter #44 thought that Miss Management was Miss Manner's sister.  On the other hand, #44 never did learn about Miss Manners.

Thanks for blogging!

In the heat of a "discussion" raw emotions get the best of people. But we can argue and disagree without being disagreeable. Time and time again, we caution each other to watch what we say and how we say it. No name calling, please.

Maybe it's just as well Mr/Ms No Name didn't identify him/herself. If his/her network of friends and associates saw what he said, he would surely lose their respect.

Let's try to remember to e civil. And we can't, then we should stay the heck out of any discussion that even hints at politics or religion.

Indeed. I couldn't have come to Deb's defense any better than what you posted here. I had read Deb's original post and had commented. I never thought that someone would be so callous. We are free to diasagree with other people's posts, but not in a disrespectful way.

Deb, you keep doing what you're doing.

Mike, thanks for the excellent rejoinder to comment #44.

HI David, thanks for your support of Deb, she is a lovely lady and I didn't see one ounce of redneck on her when I sat next to her at lunch!  (jk)   I too live in Texas and I would gladly live next door to Deb and be proud to call her my neighbor and my friend.

I learned at an early age that when people don't have the words to express themselves they stoop to name calling..  remember the childhood, Stick and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me!

As to the education of Deb, well, she is a licensed Realtor, that takes alot here in Texas, its not just your overnight drive thru.

So now we have dispelled the errors of commentor #44, be off with ye!

Keep smiling and posting, Deb and David, we value each of your thoughts.

David-I believe people are people..mere mortal men..and with that we all have opinions..a very human trait..as I read through the thread..it seems to me..this comment was not well recieved..happenings that occur every day online.  I for one..did not take it the way many others did.  Deb is an awesome lady and I really respect her and truly like her.

To me comments as such bring on a new twist to the post..which can in fact change peoples thoughts..ideals..and some great conversation.

I too seem to be sensitive when people do not read my post in the manner it was meant to be written.  It all boils down to perception and perspective! I'm not saying that Deb reacted this way..I'm saying sometimes I do react in a manner where I might take a comment a little too personally..and i feel the commenter never took the time to read the post.  We are writing words...

However..I do believe...you can read anger..or sadness or happiness in a comment...I think sometimes people forget these are people writing these posts...the reality is some lack manners and respect face to face..why would blogging be any different.  Another great post!  I'm flagging.

Those who cannot put their differences aside and move towards working together are doomed to make the same "miss stakes" and continue the vicious cycle that we have been on for a number of years.

My likes and dislikes are no more important than your own and vice versa. Until we all realize that, we will never be able to work together on the really important things. Great post. Let's all just get along and play nicely with each other.

Wow, David... I feel the love - really.  Some folks obviously type faster than they think.  Can't throw that rock either, because I'm sure my glass walls won't hold up.  We all have bad days. Chalk it up as that and focus on the positive.  Great job!

Way to go David!  A true friend in the Rain!  What a way to "hold up the umbrella" for a fellow Active Rainer.

It is difficult with the political posts for people to not get heated and use words rashly or bash others with name calling.  Given the true and caring nature of this community it is a bitter pill to take...if you look at political blogs outside of ActiveRain, though, this practice seems commonplace.  You should read the scathing words between liberals and conservatives...it gets VERY heated.

I blog very little politics, a little hear and a little there, and if I do an opposing view could be a very opposing view.  Unless I were to turn the comments off completely.

David - It was very nice of you to come to Deb's defense. I just wonder how hard could it have been for Commenter #44 to have just moved on and not bothered to comment at all? I mean, some people can come across so passionate about something that they become so ignorant during the process of making a point.
