Pres. Obama, please re-group. Yes, stem cell research is important, however, people need homes!

I don't know if the rest of you agree with me or not, however, I think the current President needs to get his priorities straight.

Stem cell research when done in an appropriate manner is a good thing.

HOWEVER, people need a home, a place to live and it seems to me that this is not being addressed.

Yes, you are trying to spend lots of money...You are supposedly giving money to help out Americans.

BUT, you are not helping the people who are important.  The people who continue to work.  I hate to call US  underlings, but as you have shown us so far, that's what we appear to be.

THE HOUSING DEBACLE NEED'S YOUR CONSTANT ATTENTION PRESIDENT OBAMA. YOU SPOKE OF CHANGE.

You make small changes, you are signing off on things that are not as important in my opinion than homeless people.

Homeowners that are not affording the ability to refinance.  Banks that will not help homeowners.

Where are your priorities Mr. President?

Can we all move into the White House with you?  After all, you have plenty of room.

Many people are now asking for rental properties with 4-5 bedrooms so that the grandparents, their children and their children will have a home.

Please President Obama, the housing industry should be your priority...mortgage companies and banks need to be told to lend money, to work with people who have not been able to deal with the balloon mortgages.  If the banks were told to allow the people who have mortgages and were paying on time what they could afford in the past to continue to do so, there wouldn't be all these foreclosures.

After all, rates now are low.  Those that are losing their homes should be able to get an immediate rate at 6% at the most.

You have a home...how about all those people you recruited to vote for you?  Do they have homes?

Just curious.

I agree Karen. Help the fix the economy first and stop diverting the public's resources and attention from the main problems in this country.

Nelson,

Exactly my point.  Go to the basics and fix them first.  Then after that is fixed...do the simple things.

I don't understand.

Karen,

The President can't seem to stick with one thing long enough to make a difference.  He is all over the place.  Lack of focus, lack of the right priorities, and I am sick to death of the wining and dining at the White House Parties.

Yes, I think we all agree the economy has to be the top priority, except those sheltered by those grand walls in the White House.

Oh, don't worry about housing right now... haven't you heard?  Health insurance and medical costs are the biggest crisis facing the American people that causes a bankruptcy every 30 seconds in America.  Once they nationalize healthcare all of our economic problems will melt away.

Maybe he does not believe strongly enough in the jobs and economy that most people want him to issue. How many great things does government do? Its all about promises and payoffs to groups and people that got him elected. Next up is the auto loan or gift for the unions.

Obama may just be out of touch with the regular man or woman in middle America.

These discussions are tremendoulsy important. Thank you for your initiative and courage to speak your mind.

I don't necessarily agree with all that has been said. President Obama spoke of disagreeing with others without being disagreeable.

I'm not sure I follow how a statement could be made that President Obama is not focused, because he is working on so many issues.

What is unrealistic, or unfocused about a leader handling a plethora of issues simultaneously?, delegating the tasks to those gathered to work on the team ...

Of course he is working on many issues. There are many issues to be addressed.

It appears that the housing situation, and the economy are top priorities. I've heard President Obama speak of other elements of our lives as being inextricably tied to the health of the economy. It appears he has surrounded himself with learned, competent men and women to create the map to bring vision to reality.

President Obama has a vision for the resourcefulness of the country.

Hi Karen - interesting post.  I guess those who are stricken with illness or waiting on some cure from our medical leadership are very glad of the announcement versus leaders trying to fix the economy??????

Anyway, I hear you but I don't think the President is one dimensional.  There are tons of issues affecting us, and as long as there is progress ON ALL FRONTS, I'm OK, as things take time to materialize - like cooking a four course dinner - you don't do one course at a time but the end result is a masterpiece!!!!

Cheers

Karen, you are right. The housing market is the lynch pin to our economy. It needs top priority. I'm beginning to think he is very distracted.

It's an unfortunate fact of life that it's easier (and much faster) to destroy than to rebuild.  Those who expect rebuilding in a few months may be in for disappointment.  I have a positive attitude but I'm also realistic.

I believe that the administration sees the housing debacle as an opportunity to consolidate power and change the direction of this republic into a democracy led by a strong central government with more and more of our GDP controlled by the government.

If they fixed housing, which would require buying up negative equity, the people would again have power.  That is anathema to their plans of consolidating power into the hands of the federal government.

You ain't seen nothin' yet.

If you support him, you think he is doing great, if you don't, he is in over his head.  What I believe is the triuth is somewhere in the middle.  The problems of our country are a direct result of government actions.  How do you solve health care when 30 to 40 percent of the country won't pay for it, but has cable, cellphones and new cars?  What should the average citizen be responsible for.  Maybe having the ability to take care of their children instead of government handouts?

No president can solve all the problems that congress and big business create for the average American.  They offer lip service, but there is no way the special interests are going to get shut out of the process.  They control our elected officials like puppets on a string.  An example is this topic.  Next week it will be something different.

The housing industry was the backbone of the country.  Now that the real estate market is gone, so is the economy.  Needless to say, I've been praying for Obama, but I think that he's already made so many decisions that are directly related to the destruction of our country.  Just so sad.

Oh Lenn you are so right and it scares the heck out of me.  I had a little bit of hope for about a week and then that hope was all gone.  Sad state of affairs and you are right we ain't seen nothing yet.

I have to dissent a little bit. I, too believe that the housing sector is the backbone of the country, but our problems are so widespread that coming at it from different directions simultaneously will help, too.  When the Stem Cell legislation was signed, the Bio-tech stocks went up.  Improvements in the stock market definitely help fuel sales in the housing sector (I can't tell you how many contracts I have heard about or had fall out because of fears of a continued decline in the stock market).

These are not easy problems and none of them can be solved in a vacuum. Unfortunately, it will take time and many, many changes to the way things are done--in all sectors.

WOW, Lenn,  You are probably the only person here who can give great insite into this debacle...thank you and I'm sure...we haven't seen anything yet.

This President is so far off the wall that...well, those college students and those who were too illiterate to know who they voted for...will be in the shock of a life time..

After all, why is the stem cell research and the other crap he is signing off on more important than those homeless people.

The most important issue should be real estate and housing...those other insignificant issues should be televised or even issues in this current state of economy.

JMHO, then again, his family is living in the White House, while others are living in tents....agast!

Andrew,

With all due respect, unless people have homes and they can take care of their families...they also have a hard time working, their children cannot study, life does not go on.

Do you not understand that if the housing situation is not fixed...the rest of the issues at hand don't matter.

Why should American citizens live like they are in a 3rd world country...This is the USA...

Stem cell research and other things that he signed off on are insignificant. Let's take care of the housing situation first.  Keep people in their homes...children, families...How can children learn...if they have no home...this goes beyond "people"...it is children and our future who have no home.

Omega,
I understand, however, PRESIDENT OBAMA, is living in the White House, there are many people who are now homeless or who are living with relatives and sleeping on the floor...along with their children who have to sleep on the floor as well and have to go to school in the AM...this is just not right...

The priorities here are...the US children should have homes to live in and have a bed to sleep in and be afforded the same opportunites in education as President Obama's.

OK, he's the President, however, every child should have an opportunity...and a decent bed.

Frank and Sharon,

I'm wondering if he has even a clue...after all. He doesn't have to worry, his children are in private school and he has more secret service agents than anyone ever has had...

I voted Republican...so I have "rights" to complain....where's Mitt Romney?

Holly,

I'm sorry until America and Pres. Obama get's back to the basic's where people have HOMES...Stem cell research is an insult.  I want people to get well, however...children living on the street b/c they have no home is just plain wrong.

Does President Obama want to open that HUGE white house for all the homeless people who are a result of this disgusting home/mortgage situation?  No, b/c his children are in private school and he is in the white house with triple security for him and his family...

THAT SURE DOES CHANGE THE "CHANGE", now doesn't it?

You get into the office of the President of the US...and then...gee things change.
