The Fallout!

snow 12

As most of you know we had a HUGE snow fall March 1st into March 2nd…..so now comes the fall-out. Schools were cancelled March 2nd & 3rd so now comes the make-up. Children in the Lincoln Country school district will be going to school on Saturday’s….yes you heard it right, Saturday’s!

The first Saturday make-up day will be March 14 and the second day will be April 4. Students will be dismissed at 12:00 noon both days. It seems that Lincoln County is eager to get in thoughs mandatory 180 days! If not they may have some of their funding cut!?!?!?!?!

Was it worth it? Sure! Having some snowfall makes us slow down a little bit and enjoy one another….especially when the cable or power goes out!

Teresa,

I believe we have a few snow days built in to our curriculum here in Utah. It seems to me like there have been a few makeup days in the past but never on weekends. They usually tack it on to the end of the year. I don't think they have been very well attended. Beautiful picture. My trees looked like that just the other day and it is snowing again tonight.

Teresa.. I just gasped for breathe... oh my... I can only imagine what the students and teachers for that matter feel about this.  Why not just tack them on to the end of the school year.

I'm hoping this idea doesn't make it's way north.  This would be a storm I can do without.

Interesting way to make up days.  We take away vacation days here (off Spring Break) Shhhh don't tell the School but my kids plan to be "sick" as the commute from SC to NY is a bit too far for a school day.

Beautiful picture of that tree Teresa.  Funny, our kids are out half day Thursday and no school Friday here but not because of the snow!

Valerie: I am really sort of glad to get them done now. When it comes to summer break I like a long (no schedule days) break. My son has another take on it though!

Paddy: That's what we usally do here too or we take teacher workdays. Since they missed one day in Jan & Feb on of those days was made up by going on MLK's birthday (so they took a holiday that time).

I've never hear of a Saturday being used for Snow Make-up Day. Last year my daughters school added an additional 8 minutes onto ever school day for 2 weeks to make up.  I thought this was a great idea.  They were still able to keep there funding but it didn't cut into any vacation time.  Unfortunately they are not so lucky this year.  They have 5 days to make up for so bye bye goes the LID days for the rest of the year.  They also have to go to school 3 additional days at the end of the year.  I am afraid if we get any more snow they will still be in school in July, YUK!

TERESA, Wow does that bring back the memories.  I especially remember those days when my children were out of school. We lived in Greensboro for 2 years and I couldn't believe how much school our kids missed for snow.  Now that we live in Texas we have to worry about hurricanes not snow.
