Mosquito Protection Tips

With the heat approaching us, and alot of standing water left behind from recent rainfalls...here come the mosquito's!  To help yourself, other residents, and to prevent mosquito breeding around homes and neighborhoods, here are some simple tips to help:

  • Dusk and dawn are the times of day residents should try to stay indoors. This is when mosquitoes are most active.
  • Dress in long sleeves and pants when outside. For extra protection, spray thin clothing with insect repellent.
  • DEET is an ingredient to look for in insect repellent. Always wear repellent when outdoors, and choose products that contain up to 20 percent DEET. Be sure to follow product instructions, especially when using repellants on children.
  • Drain standing water in yards and neighborhoods where mosquitoes can breed. This may include old tires, flowerpots, clogged rain gutters, etc. Mosquitoes may develop in any water stagnant for more than three or four days.
