The Logan Utah Real Estate market is getting a lot of attention lately. In a down economy, I think it's important to find the bright spots. Logan Utah Real Estate is one of those bright spots in the national news, and I would like to sum up some of the latest reports on our market.
The Utah Real Estate market showed a decrease in home values in 2008 by 6%. Logan homes are the only homes in Utah to show an actual increase in value. This increase, which is small, but is still an increase; was 1.9%, according to national reports. This puts Logan, Utah 32nd in the nation. Logan skipped the housing boom and has skipped the bust, so far.
In Salt Lake, prices fell by nearly 3.5%, in Provo-Orem more than 4.5%, St. George saw the biggest decrease in the state at 13.3%. That puts ST. George in the bottom 50 housing markets nationwide.
Logan, Utah was also named the third-most secure community among U.S. cities with fewer than 150,000 residents, according to the annual Farmers Insurance study.
If you have kids or are thinking about starting a family, the Logan, Utah area should be on the top of your list. Logan is nationally ranked in the top 10 for the least amount of crime in cities with 150,000 residents or less.
Logan has been listed on several national lists lately. Every month this year, it has ranked either first or second for its low unemployment rate. The last report issued by the Bureau of Labor Statistics ranked Logan second lowest in the country - Bismark, N.D., ranked first - with a 2.4% jobless rate.
"Meanwhile, however, the U.S. Census released figures this week that indicate Logan's salaries are the second lowest in the state." -U.S. Census Bureau
I can't help but think, how is this possible, considering most of the country is in a dismal state. So I started digging a little bit more, and this is what I came up with.
Logan, Utah's economy consists of Utah State University, Stevens Henegar College, and Bridgerland Applied Technology College. Education will always be strong and with a university and 2 colleges in such a small community, I think they are the backbone of our economy.
Our manufacturing is also strong, we have four cheese plants, Shrieber Food- has two plants, Gossner's Cheese, and Cache Valley Cheese. We have a strong economy because of these factors.
