Tip for Updating Your Professional Photo

As real estate professionals, we have our photos everywhere.  On our business cards, signs, blogs, websites, emails and other places I probably haven't even included here.  When you think about all the websites alone that have your photo on file it boggles the mind.  Trying to keep a current photo uploaded everywhere your photo appears can get pretty laborious just trying to remember every place we need to update.   In an effort to make this task simpler every other year when I update my photo I decided I needed a system...it needed to be Gerberized.   Being a former accountant, what else?  I put together a spreadsheet.

Here's a sample of how it looks:

                                                                          PHOTO UPDATE MASTER LIST
     DATE OF UPDATED
LOCATION:NOTIFY:CONTACT INFO:Member ID:      Password:     LAST UPDATE:BY:
my email stationary          my email stationary     contact mgmt system on computer       n/an/a1/2/2007              JJ

Chamber of CommerceDebbie Jonesdebbie@chamberoffice.comn/an/a1/2/2007JJ
MLSMLSlogon to mls using public idpmosofo12341/2/2007JJ

This has been pretty handy because now updating my photos is as simple as uploading the disk from the photographer and emailing it to an assistant along with the spreadsheet.  A few clicks and voila---current photos everywhere!

Marlene: Excelent idea. I have different photos everywhere; it is something that has accumulated over time.

Great idea for the one thing that always seems to get left until someone points it out!

Pretty good system for remembering where to update, do you have a system for deciding when? Some that I have seen must be pictures of daughters or sons. Worse is the cutsie glamour shot or buckaroo bob types. Not professional at all.

The best is seening  a real estat photo with them on the phone.  What does that say-  I am always on the phone!

Great comments!  Glad the system will be of help to you.  If you have photos everywhere, I suggest you set up a spreadsheet asap and begin filling in the info each time you stumble across one of your photos.

I really think it's a good idea to get a photo taken every two years.  Find a good photographer who knows what you're using it for.  In my opinion it shouldn't be a glamour shot.  It needs to actually look like you.  Ohteriwse, what's the point of the photo? The mark of a good photo is if someone sees it first they can recognize you from the photo.  The reason I think every two years two years is a pretty good rule of thumb...we change over that much time, hairstyle, a new wrinkle, a little eye work...LOL  We change!

Thanks again for the great comments.

Great idea, Marlene. You are do organized!

I try to do the same thing for updating contact info that might change (like getting a new designation, adding a website, etc). I also track my logons and passwords. And I keep a list of the websites that I have listed properties on, directories I have joined, sites where I have added my website, etc.  At least I am trying to be organized. :)

Hi Kimberly-glad the info is useful.  In choosing a photographer, you might ask a couple of your friends for a recommendation on who they use---if you like the photos of course.

Have an extraordinary day.
