It's happened to all of us, when taking pictures of our prized works or property we inevitably find ourselves sometimes making our own grand appearances in the reflections of our photography.  You know what I mean, you take "the perfect shot" only to get back to the office and find yourself, camera pressed to your eye, in the reflection of a mirror.

Keeping the rules of design in mind when Staging or decorating a home, that a mirror should only be placed if it is reflecting something beautiful, you can also use this to your advantage to take some fabulous pictures of your Staging works - from a different perspective.

Connie ~ Love your "reflective" pictures!  I like to try and do that myself when there is a mirror in the room.  It let's you get more in the picture - kind of like a two for one deal!

GREAT point!  I try to use this whenever possible.  I just did this yesterday when trying to photograph the master bathroom.... in the RES I am zooming into the bed in the reflection of the bathroom mirror... It's a great trick!  Thanks for reminding everyone, including me!

Connie your post is a great reminder for the photographer to get out of the way of the mirrors!  I see those photos online and can't believe they'd even post them.  Your examples are so nicely done!

Jim ~ You are so welcome!  Have a great weekend, yourself

Cynthia ~ I'm glad you like the mirror. (it was one of those "impulsive buys") ;-D

Kathy ~ 2 for 1 is right!  You get to include some of your great accessories and finishing touches that would otherwise get lost in a full room view.

Melissa ~ OOOoooooo, love the RES idea, now you've got my wheel turning!

Betina ~ I have spent too many hours photo shopping myself out of pictures in mirrors. Thanks for stopping by!

"Sea to Sky" ~ I'm sorry, there is no name to address your smiling face - but thanks!

Maureen ~ I see them all the time as well, and all too often it's the "oh-well, I can't go back and retake them now" so they get put on marketing and MLS anyway =(

Charles ~GREAT!  I hope it was an inspiration to look at things from a different perspective.  have fun!

Yes I too was "found" lurking in a picture -- and I don't like having my picture taken so you'd think I'd be more careful.

Great Reminder. thanks

Connie, Your photography is as beautiful as your staging.

Great tips! Thank you. I often struggle with how to deal with the mirror issue, and usually end up disappointed that the room that "wowed" in person looks silly in the photos with me in it!

The mirrors work great in bathrooms when you want to reflect back the entire room in one shot. Bathrooms are notoriously difficult to capture - but using the mirror does the trick and you won't be in it either.  Lovely work Connie!

bathroom mirror reflection  You can see the tub, shower and door to the "lou" (even part of the master br) all reflected back in the mirror - my photographer John at JRM Photography took the shot

Lori & Leigh ~You and me both, I actually REALLY dislike when people try to take my picture if I'm not prepared (I've seen myself in mirrors with dirty shirts and torn jeans after a Staging installation)

Kathy ~ Nothing compared to what I've seen YOU do with pics, but thank you!

Cathy &  Michelle F. ~ Thank You, both, so much =)

Marianne ~Using the mirrors really came to me in my latest Staging because the rooms were SO large, that the "little things" and details got lost. (just got my picture taken to ;-)

Karen ~I love your pic as well.  You can see the finishes, the floor plan and a peek into the Master, lovely!

Terri ~ You're funny - certainly no expert, just sharing

Leslie ~ WOW, your pic makes me want to turn around and see the huge windows in the room the desk is facing!

Michelle M ~You're welcome, my pleasure=)

Nice camera work, Connie.  I particularly like the lower, middle photo of the candle and towels.  It just kind of gives you a warm-fuzzy feeling about the home without ever seeing the house!

Thanks Connie!!.. Great reminder.. Some of "oldsters" are still far too cautious I think about how many pix we take ( you're using too much film!) and we forget that with the advent of our digi's we can click away!.. Get as many angles as possible!!!.. Take way more shots than you think you need..Then delete, delete, delete later!

Another reminder that some of us may not need , but here 'tis anyway.. DON'T FORGET TO TURN ON ALL THE LIGHTS!  I neglected to do this once, and had to go back and re-shoot the whole house!...

Hi Connie! This is such a tricky area! I've even found myself reflected in the glass on a large shower enclosure! Just being aware of it helps so that you really pay attention to what is reflected while looking through the viewfinder Excellent subject and beautiful photos.

Great shots Connie.  I love it when that happens, but now the goal is to PLAN IT THAT WAY and take the step stool along on every job! (-:

Patti ~ Yes, it is a Bea-U-tilful day in Moorpark =)

Thanks, Mike ~ I like warm-fuzzie feelings to!

Anne ~ Digital photography is the only way to go.  The "oldster" days of film are long since past.  Click away, my friend!

Pangea ~ Shower doors are definitly something to be wary of as well. Excellent reminder to watch for that as well.

Ginger ~  I found myself using a breakfast stool for one shot!  but that was it, the rest was easy.

Lisa ~ Thank you so much for your kind sentiments

Wow Connie - Absolutely amazing.  As a realtor and stager who has seen the dramatic financial implications of staging, redesign and renovation -- we do it all and partner with other allies, your work is stunning and your sense of design and execution is impeccable.

Aloha Connie,

Great pics! Framing the room through the mirror is a great technique to capture both sides of the space in one shot!
