How Old Am I, Anyway???

By
Real Estate Agent with St. Charles County, Missouri - Prudential Alliance Realtors

I told you all about my  blood-giving experience (first time) a couple of posts ago... Well, while I was waiting my turn, I listened as the nurse asked the man next to me how old he was.

He said, "46 or 47."  I thought to myself, "He doesn't know how old he is???"  I thought it was kind of funny and would have teased him about it, but I didn't know him very well.

Anyway, when it was my turn to hear this question, I confidently said, "48"  and merrily answered the other questions without hesitation.

You may be wondering..."So? What's the big deal?"

Well, in the middle of the night last night, I couldn't help thinking about my experience...I suddenly realized that I'm not 48 years old!  I'm still 47.  My birthday's not until October....

Isn't that silly?  Shouldn't I know how old I am???  :)

I never can remember how old I am anymore, without doing the math. Luckily I have an eight year old that is not afraid to tell the world! Too many more important things to remember than that silly number! haha

lol! That is funny! I sometimes forget how old I am too. I am only 27! But, I have had a lot of life experience in my 'short' lifetime that I sometimes feel like I am at least 35!!!

Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on your perspective. I still look like I am 16!!!!

It's funny...I heard a little girl on the radio today say  "I am 11, I'll be 12 in November."  November is 8 months away!  Remember when we used to be so anxious to be another year older?

I have to do the math to figure my age and my children.  For my husband's age...I have to figure my age and then add 3.

I bet you had a good laugh when you realized you had made that mistake!

My theory is that age is not relevant.  It is how you feel and act that is relevant.  Therefore, change the age subject. : )

That's pretty funny!

For me, up until 30, I always knew how old I was, no second guesses.  Now, I have to think about it a second and do the math, 9 from 6 is 3, but it's not July yet, so... I don't understand what happened, except that's when I got pregnant, so I blame everything on pregnancy brain!

Sharon - Age was so important when I was younger.  Now, I can't seem to remember it...  :)

Barbara - LOL! You're right.  It's not important...  :)

Donna - Pregnancy brain?  That sounds like a good excuse to me!  :)

Don - I know...I know...  :)

Hi Debi...Maybe the question should be, "How old do you feel?"  That would be much easier to answer, at least most of the time.  What a bunch of numbers we could come up with.

If it was not for the big 50th birthday I had, I would not know either. I am terrible with dates and numbers. In fact my husband and I married on Valentines Day so I could remember the date. Don't ask me how many years..I have no idea!!!

Happy Friday!!

Put 40 years of experience to work for you

Hey Debi, I've done the exact same thing! For one thing, I always have to stop and subtract my year of birth from the present year to figure out my age. So, when I get near my birthday, I try to implant that new age in my brain.

When I got close to my 49th birthday, I started thinking of myself as being 49. By the time my birthday rolled around, I thought I had turned 50. I told everybody I was 50. The office held a big 50th birthday party for me. A few weeks later, I was telling my sister about it, and she pointed out that I was only 2 years older than she, so I could not possibly be 50.

The bright side is I gained another year! LOL.
