Baltimore has always been a City with a large Irish Influence.

The city of Baltimore, Maryland is named after Lord Baltimore in the Irish House of Lords, the founding proprietor of the Maryland Colony. Baltimore himself took his title from a place in Bornacoola parish, County Leitrim and County Longford, Ireland. Baltimore is an anglicized form of the Irish Baile an Tí Mhóir, meaning "Town of the Big House"

Governor O'MalleyThe Governor of Maryland and former Mayor of the City is Martin O'Malley and it does not get any more Irish than that!

The Patron Saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick is celebrated in true Irish style in March.

The big Parade in Baltimore this year is the weekend before March 17th. On March 15th there are many City activities planned.

  • The Shamrock 5K race begins at 1:15 p.m. at Charles and Franklin Streets.
  • The Parade steps off at 2:00 p.m. at the Washington Monument, and continues to Pratt Street and Market Place.

Ellie, those are some pretty neat kilts!  St. Patrick's Day parades are always a little raucous.

Pat-It's the soiree before the parade that determines how good the event is!!!!

Happy St. Paddy's day to you.  There's not a lot of Irish influence over here, but there's an Irish pub or two... hmm that might make a good topic for a post!
