Over the years here on AR, I've read where other agents were contacted by the media, thanks to their blogging efforts. Well, my time finally arrived!

A couple weeks ago, I was contacted by a local TV reporter. He had done an online search and found my blog ... my WP blog. He was planning to do a series of nightly reports on the housing market. Because I include my listings on my blog, he wanted to talk to me about the importance of photography.

We met last week at my newest listing which I really welcomed the opportunity to have extra exposure. It's a gorgeous home but at $699,900 it may be a tougher sell in this market. My seller agreed to be a part of the interview as well. (You may recognize him).

Although I've never had an issue with "talking" (as friends and family know) I was rather nervous about a TV interview because I was afraid of the sound bites. The reporter taped about a half hour of info, so I knew that most of it would end up being cut.

I recorded the newsclip with my camera aimed at the TV and hoped that The Murph wouldn't bark during the recording. Another agent was interviewed as well - and since we're dressed very similar - it's sometimes hard to tell who is who. She is in a home likely located in Clintonville, where she works. My home is in Galena, near Hoover Reservoir. Unfortunately, not much of the home was captured. Bummer!

I learned that I MUST stop "talking with my hands". ;-)

WooHoo ... thanks for the Gold Star!

I do want to thank ABC Ch 6 for doing a positive housing report. The industry needs more of that.

I appears there is something wrong happening with this post. I keep getting an error message from AR when trying to publish it, saying the error was on their end. Another Rainer just called me to say she was unable to leave a comment. Obviously, I can leave a comment so I'm not sure what is happening. Will continue to look into it.

Elaine, that was great! Being with Weichert, we are not supposed to speak directly to the media.

BTW, It is ok to use your hands when speaking.  When you take public speaking classes you learn to use your hands in delivering a message.  You did very well!!!

Elaine - I tried commenting earlier to no avail.  Glad it is working now:)  It's wonderful that your blog has added increased exposure for you, via the tube!  Personally, I've been quoted in newspapers a few times because of AR... but haven't made it to "Prime-Time" just yet.  Somebody get the make-up crew ready, I'm just itching for the screen;)

Thanks to all for commenting ... FINALLY! The problem was a simple period. I had AR change my email address recently, and an extra period was put in at the end of my email address. Surprisingly, that affected the blog posting and ability to leave comments. Whoddathunkit.

Sorry I'm so delinquent in answering everyone's comments. I really, really appreciate all of them.

Regarding the public speaking, I often had to make presentations to large groups in my former corp job, so "talking" doesn't bother me. My concern was whether they would edit it to present a negative toward the real estate market.

I was so pleased to have this great opportunity as the media usually calls one of the Board's Directors, which is what the other agent (Sue) is. Were it not for my hyper local WP blog, I would have never received the call. Hope that's encouragement for others.

Julie: The tripod works best in large homes where there is room for the legs. I also use it when I'm filming a movie of the home. Again, that only works when the home is large.

I must tell you all one of the funny things that happened. At the start of the video, I'm walking around pulling up the blinds in the Florida Room. Well, as I was doing that, I tripped over a plant on the floor. Thank goodness it wasn't live TV. ;-)

BTW, the flowers that are in the photo I use here on AR came from a seller I never met. Their home had been on the market with another agent. They were unhappy and began searching the internet for a new agent and landed on my WP blog. We got their home in contract in 40 days. So they sent me flowers as a 'thank you'. Thanks again for all the kind comments. What Brenda says is so key. Blogging can be a very inexpensive form of advertising. Although our time is certainly not 'free', blogging can generate a better ROI than print ads that cost a fortune and don't make the phone ring. Even though I love blogging and derive a good portion of income from it, I try to remember to keep it in balance. I try to not rely on it solely and still pursue the all-important face-to-face contact. That's why I love doing open houses ... but then as I said in the post ... I LOVE to talk. ;-)

Special thanks to all for the congrats comments. Much appreciated.

Frankly: I totally agree on the Kodak and read most of those reviews a couple years ago. However, when those reviews were being done, it was mentioned that Kodak no longer makes that model and people were resorting to buying them on eBay. Are you aware of a camera currently being sold that offers that wide angle? I've been to the camera store and so far haven't been successful in finding one that is substantially different than the Nikon I'm using.

Anyone have any suggestions?
