I came across this recent blog post - "The Rising Power Of Social Media As A Traffic Driver" - showing how using Facebook and Twitter can increase web traffic dramatically.
Worth a read.
I now get 3-4 comments, potential leads a week from my facebook friends, so yes this does work. My suggestion is to stick with people you actually know in the real world for that site.

Scott - I know I need to utilize facebook and twitter more than what I am currently doing. I am not using either to their fullest potential.
