I'm sick of negative press!

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Arizona Realty

You know at some point in time the press needs to relize that there is more to the news than all of the accidents, murders, loss of jobs, body parts in soup, lousy weather etc., etc. and start talking about some of the positive things that are going on.  Instead of the 1 minute blurb at the end of the news hour about Billy who saved his cat from a tree.

As far as real estate goes out here in Phoenix all you hear is that its near the top of the list for decreased market values, which I agree it is.  However, the news is not telling you that it is an AWESOME time to buy a home if you can!!  Interest rates are great, there are a lot of affordable homes out there below what their true value is, the lenders for foreclosed properties are willing to work now with the stimulus helping them out, the new tax credit, etc. etc.

Also the current Pending sales (to include AWC) are higher than they were during the peak of the boom in 2006!  Go figure!! All I can say is that if you can buy a second home, or if your thinking about buying your first home DO IT!!! It will be a long time before we see another buyers market like this...and it WILL end!  Unfortunately we will never know that we have hit the bottom untill we are already out of it,  but I'm seeing many signs that we are in the bottom so get out there and get shopping!!

Anyhow, that's just my two cents, for what it's worth.

I'm with you, Timothy!  It's nice when you can post positive info instead although it seems that the "if it bleeds, it leads" mentality is still part of what sells papers and viewers/advertising.  One of the beautiful things about blogging is that WE get to choose what content we want to provide and we'll be there to balance out the bad news bearers... (pun intended) ;)

Timothy,

That is what the on/off button is for.  Have you joined the PAWS group?  Positive Attitude for Weary Souls is a great AR group that focused on positive posts. When I see a positive article I take time to blog about it here.  Have a great day!

Blame the liberal media.  They don't know how to tell the truth - or anything which isn't sensational.

I agree wholehearedly with Reba. Negative new sells, and our paper here in Cleveland is a perfect example. You're right that it is a great time to buy but too many people trust what they read and hear, which is all negative. Blogs give us power to fight back and be heard--very empowering. Thanks for the post, Timothy.

I've been ignoring the media for years. They never have anything good to say. And quite frankly, it's my opinion that anyone who puts too much stock in what they hear, should have a lobotomy!

Timothy,  I think the saying is "if it bleeds it reads".  Maybe they should be doing articles and news shows about how there will probably never be another opportunity like this in our life times to purchase a home with the low interest rates, low home prices, and the tax credit.
It's the perfect time to buy if you're eligible but you don't hear about that much.

Timothy,

I hear you.  Our local paper reporter who covers real estate has nothing but negative stories about real estate.

Timothy:  Great post!  It's so hard to remain positive when you run-up against all the changes and problems facing the R.E. industry during the day and hear the bad news at night.  A real downer.  I try to remain focused on the task at hand .. helping my customers and referral partners the best way I know how.  I figure it's all I can do and control.  There IS alot of positive out there for those that have remained lucky enough (and smart enough) to be in control of their finances, first-time buyers, and more.  I keep trying to get the positive point of view, news, and approach out there via the papers, internet and etc. ... and smile while doing it!

Best of luck to all of us!

You have hit my biggest rant on the head.  Everywhere I go it is busy.  I took my daughter to Mall of America for her 16th birthday.  You would have thought it was Christmas it was so busy, lines to try clothes on, lines to purchase, lines to eat at restaurants.  Where were the  TV Cameras?

We just returned home from a spring break vacation in Florida.  We spent a day at Disney, same thing lines and more lines where was the press?

If the press would change their tune we would all be doing much better.
