Spotlight on the Schools of the Greenway Neighborhood of Beaverton Oregon

Being an agent that specializes in finding families a home, one of the questions I get asked a lot is, “How are thes chools in the Greenway Neighborhood of Beaverton Oregon?” Unfortunately, I can’t answer this directly because of the way the laws are written in this state. You have to determine how a neighborhood is, or its schools are, for yourself. But, what I can do is supply you with the tools to do exactly that.

Both my parents, and both sets of grand parents, were in education and my brother is still a middle school teacher in Tigard, Oregon. So, I still think there are a lot of good teachers in the system. I, personally, just think the system is flawed and this is one of the reasons I home school my kids. The other reason is my oldest daughter started to read on her own at age three. So we had to make a choice. We could hold her back when she was ready to learn or we let her go at her own pace, which was at the time, beyond what the public school system could offer us.

www.FamilyWatchdog.usAnother thing I think is important for parents of children to investigate before they move to any neighborhood, is who your neighbors are. One of the best sites I can supply to any parent, is Family Watchdog. This site tells youhow close the nearest sex offenders are to any address in the United States.

So,how do you determine how good a school is without actually having yourchildren attend one of the schools in the Greenway neighborhood? One way istalk to other parents, but if you are relocating to Beaverton, Oregon, from another place in the United States, this may be unrealistic. So, the other wayis to base it on test scores and feedback from parental websites. (Be careful with the parental websites though. I find the most vocal are those thatdon’tlike a school, so sometimes you miss the other side of the story.)

Greenway Elementary SchoolThe elementary school in the Greenway neighborhood of Beaverton, Oregon, is Greenway Elementary, located at 9150 SW Downing Drive, Beaverton, Oregon, 97008. I can tell you the school has 475 students and is located right at theedge ofthe Greenway Neighborhood. But, if you are looking to find out how Greenway Elementary rates on average test scores, I suggest you head to one of my favorites sites to send to parents. That site is called Greatschools.net and there you can find average test scores, demographics, and even teacher student ratios for Greenway Elementary in Beaverton, Oregon.

Conestoga Middle SchoolNow the middle school for this area is Conestoga MiddleSchool, located at 12250 SW Conestoga Drive, Beaverton, Oregon, 97008. It looks like it gets a pretty good rating from the parents, but that is for youto judge. Now Conestoga Middle School, in the Greenway Neighborhood, is a lot bigger than the grade school and has over double the amount of students attending it, yet the teacher to student ratio looks to be about the same.

Southridge High SchoolThe last school on the list is the High School, and it is a big one! Southridge High School in Beaverton, Oregon, has almost 2,000 students, but despite what looks like a little bit higher student to teacher ratio than the elementary and middle schools, the parent rating is pretty high. All these schools are within walking distance of any home in the Greenway neighborhood.

Todd, Very well written. Honest about your choice to home school, and taking care when on the parental sites. Good advice. Congrats on the 600K..what an accomplishment!

Hi Todd, I know a couple of very smart kids who attend schools in Beaverton. They are friends of my daughter. Home schooling is probably best but for those who can't home school for whatever reason, I think these schools would be perfectly fine.

TC,

I strongly support your home schooling!!! My kids attend 'good' public schools, but I see many, many flaws in the system...!!! Thanks,   Fran

Todd --- very nice blog about the school system in Beavertown ---In SC we cannot advise about the schools either --- wait a minute, that is a federal law ---Hope everyone who reads your blog will remember not to try to say whether or not there are sex offenders in the neighborhood.  I ask my agents to direct those who ask to the Sheriff's office.

Barb - Thanks, it was a long road!

Shirley - Have a strange feeling that has more to do with the parents than the schools. (Thanks for the congrats)

Fran - You didn't send them to a Catholic school?

Liz - This site will do that for them and probably have better answers quicker than the sheriffs office in my experience. (It was fun though, to get those points, hard work yes, but a fun journey with lots of friends made on the way)
