Buying a Charlottesville VA home - Should you get your mortage at the grocery store? I was standing in line at my local Kroger grocery store idlely leafing through the gossip rags waiting for my turn at the register when my eyes fell on a display filled with brochures. As I looked closer I noticed to my horrer that the brochures were advertising mortgages.
If you look at the cover of the brochure, there are the following come ons:
- Finance your home fo less
- $0 application fee
- Receive $250 upon closing
Looking inside the brocure you can see that this is through a branch of Kroger called Kroger Finance and the mortgage branch is KPF Mortgage LLC which has teamed up with a company called CCO Mortgage.
The brochure goes on to advertise a full range of mortgage services: fixed rate, ARMS, Jumbos, and bridge loans. According to their advertising it is "fast 'n easy".
With all of the problems that we have seen in the financial sector this month why would anyone who is buying a Charlottesville VA home think that it would be a good idea to get their mortgage at the grocery store? The hype on kroger.com/finance is that you should use the grocery store that you know and trust for your financial needs. Somehow in my mind it does not naturally follow that if they are good at selling groceries that they would also we a name to be trusted in the mortgage world.
By the way you can have truly one stop shopping. Kroger finance in addition to mortgages offers pet insurance, home equity, identity theft protectioninsurance, life insurance, renters insurance, specialty craft insurance, car insurance, homeowners , and a master card.
Is this the super market of the future? I will continue to advise my clients who are buying a Charlottesville VA home to use a mortgage professional that they can have a personal relationship with and who will be able to sit down and speak with them about their financial situation.
