I just saw a great post about Logos Logo promoting your website and/or you??

It got me to thinking about doing such a thing for my website, but I'd like to try my hand at doing it myself first.

Are there any suggestions for websites or software programs that would allow me to experiment with my artistic abilities (which to be honest are few) and let me see what I can come up with? I wasn't sure if others have done their own logos successfully.

I've been doing logos for years. I started by creating one for myself (not in use at the moment) and wound up doing them for a lot of agent friends because it was so much fun. There are many programs out there but the one I use is TheLogoCreator (Laughingbird software). Have fun with it and if you need help, holler.
