I've been noticing something with this whole social media and blogging thing. Most of the people I interact with - whether it's on Active Rain, Facebook, Twitter or elsewhere - are Realtors or people in the real estate industry like lenders, title companies and the like.
The fact is, I have another blog that I write stuff for that is really what I would call more consumer-centric. I don't always talk about real estate wars stories (I do sometimes). I write about changes in the market, the FHA and VA and the like..community events, etc. I know a lot of Realtors do the same here on Active Rains and really use this as their primary, if not only, Internet platform.
However, what I've found is that is it mostly other Real Estate professionals that interact with me on these various "social media" sites. Rarely, do I get a comment from Joe The Homebuyer or Jane The Homeseller. Certainly, there are very few people who match that descritption that "follow" me on Twitter or "friend" me on Facebook.
So, that brings me to this question: Is developing social media relationships with Real Estate professionals all around the country and world:
- more effective
- less effective
- equally as effective
as trying to develop a referral base among the general public and/or my client base?
Or is it just a fun thing to do and probably a good thing to "know" other real estate proferssioanls through the lens of social media?
Just wondering.
ActiveRain is a real estate network. I participate on ActiveRain to engage other industry members in real estate realted topics. The focus is primarily the "State of the Real Estate Industry" as in "hard core real estate talk." Based on what I read, I find agents to whom I can refer buyers or sellers. That's my business.
My personal web sites, blogs and Localism are for the public and that's where my business comes from.
