Interbasin Water Transfer Issue

By
Real Estate Agent with Leigh Brown & Associates, RE/MAX Executive
You may be reading in the news about the fight over the interbasin water transfer between the Catawba River and Cabarrus County.  Concord and Kannapolis are anticipated to have water shortages due to the industrial and residential growth, by the year 2035.  However, there is a lot of opposition from the towns and communities along the Catawba.  They're not reading the studies which show that the amount of water shared with Cabarrus County will not affect the water levels by more than a couple of inches...instead, they claim that we will run the river dry!  When did water become a resource owned by the towns along it?  I always though that water was a natural public resource to be shared by all.  The economic engine that is humming along in Concord and Kannapolis with the addition of the North Carolina Research Campus affects other towns in the area. Shutting us down does nothing but hurt the area as a whole.  Why can't we share what God has so abundantly provided?
