Searcy old bank

Downtown Searcy ARKANSAS, corner of Arch

and Spring Streets on the Square.

This is an old picture of Searcy Arkansas's Security Bank.  It is now called First Security Bank and is one of the strongest banks in the state.

My next picture will show how it has been restored. Throughout the years it has had different facades as the fashions changed.

Subject today, however, is the building across the street that shows in the background of this photograph.

It has recently sold and my understanding is that the upstairs has been made into a very fashionable downtown apartment.

Funny how old photos had a lack of distance.  There is really a pretty decent width street between these two buildings but in the old picture here it appears to be an alley at the most.

I drove through this street the other day and did a double take.  There was a painter at the side of the building painting it an icky green!  UGH!!

Downtown Searcy AR

This distance shot shows how the building is being renovated and it shows the scaffold where the painters are climbing up there and apparently painting a little at a time.

And the surprise is that it has gone from icky ugly to beautiful!!

They have put several different shades of color and even a red stripe at one spot.

Look at this larger picture and see if you don't agree that it is an asset to downtown Searcy now!

Barbara, I like what they're doing with it. The color blend isn't bad at all, at least not in the photo. Isn't it amazing how something can start out looking icky but when they're done putting it all together it takes on a life of it's own? Thank you for sharing this with us.

Looks nice!  I can see myself living in that building, at least based on the outside.

isn't it nice when a favourite old buidling becomes "loved" and renewed by someone new?

Barbara: I am so glad to see an appreciation for 'vintage' buildings! Now they need to get to work on the building to the right...*wink*

Kim, they seem to be working on that block from the ends. The old Headlee drug store building on the south end was renovated similar to this building. http://activerain.com/blogsview/919174/Headlee-Drug-Store-in-old-downtown-Searcy-AR They form great book ends for something neat to happen in the middle. I'd be surprised if something is not already underway. /a distant observer

Suesan, the color is very pleasing now but when they started at the bottom with the green I thought they were going to paint the building green!  It is lovely now.

Patsy, I'd like to see the apartment above!  Thanks for comments.

Alan, our little city is trying to spruce up downtown.  Looks good too.

Kim, they do need to and probably will.   Thanks for stopping by.

Bob, thanks for helping me out on this blog!

Zane, it is pretty now because of the mixture of colors.  All green might have been pretty putrid.  I knew you'd like the cars!

Mrs Barbara,

I could climb that scaffold and walk around with not one worry. I only ever had one accident.

Nutsy,

I believe your accident had something to do with Mr. Buell's business?  He did pay for all your medical bills, didn't he?

Barbara,

Thanks for sharing these downtown renovation pic's!  I always prefer seeing a towns historical buildings restored and given a NEW look as opposed to knocking them down and building new ones.  Love the classic cars in the old town picture!
