The Center for Autism and Related Disorders

I have lived and worked in the Tarzana/Encino area for so long it would be easy to think that I knew everything about the area.  The truth is I love to learn new things about the place I call home.  The other day I met with new clients who are moving to the area.  During our initial meeting the couple told me they are moving here to be closer to CARD, the Center for Autism and Related Disorders, which has its world headquarters in Tarzana.

My clients made the decision to move here after their child was diagnosed with autism.  While so many people move to the area to enjoy the weather or for a job opportunity or simply to seek fame and fortune, this young family has moved here to get the best autism therapy available in the world.

I have driven by the CARD building on Ventura Blvd. probably a million times, but meeting this family and hearing of the miracles that take place there has made me even prouder to live in this wonderful community.

If you are relocating to the Los Angeles area I hope you'll allow me to be your Realtor.  I'm Carol Wolfe and nobody does it better.

Thanks for your post, Carol. Autism is increasing in incidence and developing centres of expertise will be very important. You are lucky to have one in your community.

I wrote a post a while ago receommending that people read "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night" by Mark Haddon. It's written in the first person, with the voice being that of a young man with Asperger's Syndrome - part of the Autism spectrum.

Hi Carol~ That is wonderful that you have a center for Autism there.  It would definitely be a lure to move there for anyone with a child that has Autism.  I for one, can relate to that as I have a older child with autism.

Hi folks! This morning there was a flash ad about ASD's that had Carol's name attached. I wanted to share with you some exciting news about ASD's. An audio technology has been found that, when used early enough in childhood, (6 months) will actually prevent the damaging brainwave activity that is the root cause of the disorders. Six years ago an infant showing the first signs of Tourette's, was treated by his mother, while sleeping! After three sessions his EEG readings were normal and the head tics went away. Today, the boy is as normal as can be. In future years infants will be EEG tested at birth with ASD candidates being given the opportunity for treatment. I'm afraid that Autism itself may be a different kind of disorder that this treatment may or may not be effective on.
