I wrote a post a few weeks ago on why we should comment on blogs. The blog I maintain is very relevant to the Real Estate industry so the moral of the story was to take sometime and begin to comment. I even offered a reciprocol comment. Well out of the 1,200 people who read the post, only 6 commented. Not such a good statistic. Kinda tells the story of exactly what I have been saying for a while. Most Agents are not taking full advantage of blogging. I get to meet many, many agents and this comment resonates, blogging takes too much time. But then again, anything worth while in life is costs you time or money.

Gaining links from blog commenting is a great fringe benefit. The link is the reward for posting a good relevant comment. Well not all comments become links but...Commenting is the other half of why we blog, we blog to join the conversation. Those comments complete the circle. Again blogs are all about engaging in the conversation. The conversation in the form of comments builds the links, the links expands the conversation. It is this full circle relationship that will provide you success as a blogger.

So get out their and comment. By the way commenting on lots of blogs besides the AR community helps expand your sphere of influence. So get out there.

Just yesterday I heard the comment, "It's such a waste of time."  I think most people don't understand the benefits.  As for me, I'm out there!

I've seen comments that show the agent, etc did not even read the post though. Reading is good, adding to the thread is good. Just hit and run for the seo value...not so good.  If you got a series of "Good post", "Super post", "Really sweet post", and that was all, how would that have made you feel? To me a good post and comments that add to the topic, or consider an exception work for me. I get many ideas for further blogs from the spark caused by the post and all the comments that can be blogs in blogs with links, images, everything without hi jacking it.

Mark - I agree that commenting is very important to get the best blogging results.  I have received as much, maybe more exposure from commenting than from blogging.  Who knows if as many people would read my blog if I wasn't showing up on theirs.  Which brings me to my next point.  It's really important that people follow your lead and return the favor when it comes to comments.  Its a shame if someone takes the time to read and comment only to receive no recognition for their blog work.  If we lead by example, others will get it eventually.

I am addicted to AR and enjoy blogging.

I can see it will improve my SEO and I refuse to pay per click to google.

Good Luck to all Active Rainers in 2009

The funny thing I've noticed after only about 10 days on AR is that you begin to feel like you know these people who comment on your blog and whose blogs you read - even though they live clear across the country and you've never seen them or really talked to them.

Mark, I'm picking up what you're laying down!

I love the conversation that gets stirred up when there is a good back-and-forth. I try to leave a comment everytime I read a blog. I mean after all, I'm here anyway, right? Plus, I have all these great concepts and ideas running around in my mind, it seems a shame not to share them!

OK, I would love to carry on, but I have to read the next chapter in "Learning to be Humble, Even When it's SOOO Hard". I know, you can't see why I would be reading a book like that, can you? LOL

Thanks for the conversation!

If people take away one thing from the down market, it should be this: The phone will not ring by itself!

You need to make your voice heard, share advice/opinions, and get as active as possible to let people know you are someone who MAKES BUSINESS HAPPEN!
