Over the past few weeks I have had many Realtors, lenders, friends, and complete strangers ask me the same question.

Why Marine 1 Realty? Why am I "limiting" myself with such a name? Aren't I afraid that I am isolating buyers/sellers that are non military??

Well, I have given many well thought out answers and some not so well thought out.

Yesterday while facing a "who's gonna do it" crisis with last minute details in my new office, something happened.

I realized that even on my best day there was absolutely no way that I could add trim carpenter, electrician, painter, and cable runner guy to my plethora of responsibilities.

After contemplating which tropical island I would simply disappear to, I decided to phone a friend.

Gunnery Sergeant Mitch Tiemann, my first client EVER.

Within 30 minutes, three Marines were running a special operations all over my office. Talk about strategic moves!?!? I was in complete awe.

Matter of fact, awe isn't quite good enough. It was somewhat emotional for me.

Mitch was once my very first client, he had just come home from Iraq. I helped him find the perfect home.

Since then, I have seen Mitch deployed again, sold his first home, and helped him purchase another. I know his daughters. His wife, continues to be one of my heroes.

Now, here he stands giving orders of a different kind.

He looked at me and he said, " Well, of course I came when you called, now, don't worry, we will take care of everything."

Limiting myself? Seriously!?!?! I couldn't be happier with my chosen target market. Honestly, I kind of have it made:).

That is so great. I don't think you are limiting yourself by your name. Your clients will come to you not your name.

Cherimie (great name btw!) I enjoyed reading this post.  I don't think you're limiting yourself either.  We're always told to carve out our niche and dominate it.  That is exactly what you are doing.  And very well it seems.  Good for you!

Trust yourself, if it's you keep it. And if anyone asks again just say I am proud, aren't you?

I was in the Navy and proud of it.

Cherimie, I think you came up with a great idea. Coming from a family (my dads side) where everyone was a Marine (I was just a Marine brat) I think what you are doing for them is great and I think you are already seeing that it is going to work great for you....peace zane

Great company name, don't change it! You now have a very specialized niche product; you have become a "specialist", just like a doctor who specializes in one area of medicene. People will be referred to you because of what and how you do it. When people go fishing for a particular type of fish, do they throw out the ones that aren't that particular type? No, they keep them. You will get referrals of their "non-marine" friends.  Good Luck!

You will attract Marines, retired Marines, and lot of other people looking to relocate to the area...not just Marines....though, you know, our Military in Beaufort is a huge part of our real estate business.  Also, don't you love it when you get a Marine buyer (especially those DI's) - they are so quick to get everything completed - they don't mess around!!  High speed - low drag!  LOVE IT!

The name is not limiting at all!  In fact, it's a wonderful name that will draw active, inactive and retired military from all over.  It was a smart move IMO.

You are blessed to be in the Marine family - and it appears as though you have been 'adopted' without reservation!  Keep up the good work!

I do not see your choice limiting you.

Considering the Corp is known to:

  • Adapt
  • Improvise
  • Achieve

I think it is a great name!

Cherimie - there you go, your confirmation that you have selected the very best name.  Having come from a military family where my dad was a career man and my mom had been a WAVE I thought your name was wonderful from the onset.  I felt it embodied the spirit of the finest and a tribute to those in the area.  Limiting, not at all, smart - absolutely.  The story you told is just a wonderful statement of family - you treat your clients as family and they will be there for you as well.  Best wishes as all the pieces fall together.  Best advice, go with your gut, you have a wonderful feel for what right and best reflects you and your business.

Limit Yourself?  Are you serious?  You were actually asked that?  Cherimie - you have formed a huge bond of trust, respect, admiration and a level of unsurpassed professionalism with the Marines.  They chose YOU!  That is abundantly clear.  I couldn't be more proud to say I support one of the most avid and genuine supporters of the Marines!  You are a great role model to all of us in how we form relationships both professional and personal.  I admire you quite a bit but, I think you already know that.

If you are a Realtor you have the drive to do anything.  You will be fine over the next few weeks with getting the office together and getting everything going straight down the road.  Good Luck
