Alert your sellers

Alert your sellers ...  and Keep an eye on your buyers...

Caution Alert: Prescription Drugs Stolen   Columbus MLS has been notified of a theft that has occurred during a REALTOR'S® open house in Clintonville on Sunday, February 22, 2009.   The sellers reported that a prescription bottle of painkillers was removed from the upstairs bathroom medicine cabinet in the home.    Several couples were in the home during this time and some moved freely about unattended and thus there are no primary suspects identifiable.   Therefore, currently no crime  report is known to have been given to local police by the sellers.   REALTORS® are reminded to continue to use caution in their daily activities and remind sellers to remove valuables, small items of importance and medications from sites that are easily accessible by others viewing their property.     Remember too that your local police department is available to help investigate matters that pertain to any crime.

Great post and reminder, Dave.  Unfortunately, this type of activity is only going to increase.  You are right, we have to do the CYA thing way ahead of time.   I actually think it is wise to tell my sellers immediately upon listing that there may be potential buyers (and unfortunately, Realtors) out there who can't resist the temptation, so they really need to lock them down immediately.  We actually had an incident a couple of years ago with a Realtor who had an addiction and was asked to leave the area.

Thanks for posting this.  I think homeowners should be aware of the potentials, not to scare them, but just so they can take precautions.

Dave,

Thanks for the reminder. In our listing agreement we remind sellers about the possibility of prescription drugs being stolen.
