You might not have heard of Wendi Aarons. She's a blogger I have followed for a while because I like the way she thinks and writes. (She isn't in the real estate industry. I know..but there are some of them out there.)

She posted this entry yesterday, House: A Grown Up Fairy Tale, and I couldn't help thinking this is how many Americans perceive our relationship to our homes to be. It might be helpful if the loud mouths blaming homeowners, who just wanted to buy a home, for all the woes in our economy would remember why Americans want homes. Homeownership may be a privilege and not a right, but for most of us it's worth working hard to accomplish.

SarahGray, I clicked over to Wendi's blog and read her fairy tale.  It is quite an endearing story.  Reminded me of my first house, which I still think of as the house I love and miss.  My husband and I spent so much time working on the house to make it ours, and then we had to move out of state.  We bought the house in our early years, did not even think about it as an investment.  Since the "boom" years of this decade, every buyer I meet wants to know how quickly their home will appreciate.  I often have to remind them of the joys of simply owning and living in a home.  Thank you for sharing this story.

Glad you enjoyed it Kathryn! Wendi is a talented blogger. I too remember every nook, cranny and fact about my first house, including what I paid for it, how much my mortgage payment was and what the interest rate was! Buying a first home is a special moment in our lives that I love sharing in with my clients!

Hi, SarahGray! Thank you so much for linking to my blog! I'm glad you got the sentiment behind the story. I still get a little weepy when I think about that first house, but that's where we had our babies, grew up, etc. It's hard to leave all of those memories behind, even for a house with a bigger bathroom. :)

Anyway, it's nice to meet you. Thanks so much for reading my blog!

Best,

Wendi
