Active Rain is going to get "booted from Google" ???

I don't need help understanding the criticisms of me personally.  

Help me with the bold part about ActiveRain.com ....

David Esrati says

It's OK for you to call Teri's blog "what a girly blog! I am looking for decorating tips where would I locate those?:wink:"
The words "Social networking" don't mean it's a party line- at least not when people are trying to build their business utilizing  the online tools.
I would hope you would take my seminar link removed because you think you might actually learn something, rather than personalities.
I wouldn't be surprised if Active Rain ends up getting booted from Google- when it appears just as an aggregation site that has little usable content when viewed as a whole- but, we will see.

Aggregation site?  There's some aggregation...  I can think of other sites that could be described more as "aggregation site"  than Active Rain.

This comment is on a non ActiveRain real estate blog.  David Esrati teaches a "seminar" about WordPress.org blogs called Websitetology in Dayton Ohio. 

 

Reading a Members Only blog about what was taught in the Websitetology 'seminar' it  does not seem to have much substance. Not a lot of "useful content."   Not much about business tools. Or maybe the Active Rain member who took the class is hording the good stuff.  

The 'seminar' is not about real estate blogs, just any and all WordPress.org blogs.

Using Submit Express to check out Esrati's numbers on his three blogs. 

Total links for blogosopher.com/ are 2488 

Total links for esrati.com/ are 2727 

Total links for www.thenextwave.biz/ are 4651

The Website Grader also says Esrati's blogs don't make the grade.... but Esrati does have a Page Rank of 5 on his Advertising Agency blog. Good work!  Keep using those business tools on those blogs. 

The link Esrati left in the comment  is for the blogosopher.com site about his 'seminar' about WordPress.org blogs.  That's the class where he teaches about WordPress.org

Does David Esrati internet guru (or at least professed WordPress.org guru) know what he is talking about? If ActiveRain.com gets "booted from Google" you heard it from Esrati!

Yeah, I don't think we'll get get booted.  AR is definetly not what would be characterized as an aggregation site.  I bet you would find there is a much higher degree of unique content on this site than almost any main stream news site out there.

Ouch to this whole thing.  Maureen- I apologize for not realizing how deeply his comments hurt you. David has strong opinions and they are just that- opinions. Just like we all have opinions. They are based on our own personal experiences and emotional and mental processes. When someone makes statements such as the comments he made, consider the source. Attacks always reflect the attacker not the attacked. That is why I let his comments stand- I felt they didn't reflect you at all but are a reflection of him.

Hey Teresa, It doesn't hurt me. It makes me angry.  There is a history.  If you go back on his website to last summer.  He blogged about me and when I commented there was a break down in communication and he insulted me and RealTown blogs.  The nice glowing blog post was just bait for him to do a commercial for his class and insult someone.      

I don't remember mentioning the WordPress class to you so I could not remember whether I mentioned the impression he'd made on me last summer.  In my comment on his blog I  had given credit for teaching me everything I knew about blogging which was not much to RT Blogs. He took it that I was selling RT Blogs.  I don't have any ownership and RT doesn't even give out points. 

I'm sorry you spent money on a class to learn what you shared in the M.O. blog. Hopefully there was something more.  It is provident that I had a company meeting.  I would have been livid if I had spent money to go to a presentation of that.    

The worst thing though is that he's so comfortable maintaining order on your blog.

GEEZ! His SubmitExpress numbers aren't any better than my temporary blog on Earthlink!! If he's such a guru, giving seminars on WP, I would certainly expect that he should do better than my temporary blog. Sounds like he's just jealous that were gaining all this education and not paying him the big bucks!

maybe he does not focus on that in his 'seminar.'   Because what was shared about the seminar is in a members only entry our hands are tied as far as discussing the content of the course here.  His business tools don't seem to include web optimization.

There's a lot of useful info on ActiveRain.   I wish there was more about WordPress.org blogs but there is not.

It's amazing to me how many people who don't know anything about how Google and other Search Engines work make statements that have no basis in fact. The truth is Active Rain, like most other social networks, is full of fresh, unique, and relevant content with TONS of quality inbound links. Unless AR starts employing a bunch of SPAM and black hat tactics it will remain well indexed in Google.

I'd think if you are going to teach a seminar about blogging (he does) you should understand search engines but it seems that's not the focus of the class.  I don't know how familiar he is with ActiveRain or social networking. He seems to not be a fan of ActiveRain.com

Maureen, I just saw this today.

It's gave me a great morning laugh. I checked AR on the SubmitExpress site...715,830. LOL. AR is right up there with BMW! It's crazy that anyone would think a site with this many backlinks would be booted by an organization as smart as Google.

Here's my plan:

Put him on a email drip campaign that sends one award each day that you have won for your blogging! You could start with the Top Female Blogger Award. That would keep his inbox busy for a while :)

No, that's not my style... I got the blog awards  because of networking with some people who understand blogging and networking.  He has different ideas about what to do with a real estate website, what tools to use.  The part of his style I don't appreciate is insulting people and recommend at the same time that they take his class about blogging.

Notwithstanding the Google links, the SearchExpress rank or any other measure ActiveRain is a valuable place for people in the real estate industry to learn about blogging, to learn about on-line community, to learn about technology and to learn new things about real estate.  ActiveRain is invaluable.  Great place to network.

ROFL!  This was an awesome article Maureen!  Besides that fact that it was hilarious, me being an SEO guy myself for about 7 years now.  I didn't even know about that little backlink tool you used :-P  Goes to show you really are learning new things every day! :-D

By the way how did you pull off the 18k backlinks? On my blog moneyvsdebt.com I check using that tool and I've got 1,600 or so...! :-P  I've got a PR 4 (Which if I didn't have so many links and tags would probably be a 5) however I'm not complaining...

I am no SEO nerd, it was 2000 Flushes... I mean 2000 Bloggers.  My blog was brand new, it sounded fun, I never thought of it being a linking scheme...I just thought it was a lark. I've blogged about it.  That blog did not deserve the links.... but I am trying to make it into a good blog, redeem it.  Change it's evil ways.

I can't see that happening, Google kicking out AR, we are a focused group talking about real estate and it's issues.  The bots would love that.  But as earlier said, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Linda: I think some people  that are involved in blogging and not necessarily social networking are threatened by social networking and feel a need to demean it.  To them the world would be a better place  if ActiveRain did not give everyone a place to blog, teach them how to blog, provide a free, easy to use platform and Google Juice.
