I got the Surprise of my Life!

Yet ANOTHER "Social Networking" site.  Yes, I know many of you have been on them for a long time but honestly, I can't keep up with it all.  I read all the posts about Twitter (which I am still struggling with) and finally decided I HAD to do it...I joined Facebook.

I remember Facebook when my children were using it.  It kept crashing my computer (and still does!) and I dreaded the thought of trying to figure out yet another site.  I joined, finally-for Business.  And got the surprise of my life.

I already KNEW so many people, my Activerain family.  Within minutes it seemed I had ‘hellos' and ‘greetings' and ‘happy to see you' notes!  How nice this group is-what a wonderful welcome!  In the few days I've been on exploring I have found even MORE surprises.

Long, LONG lost friends from Jr. High School!  Catching up is nothing short of a blast and brings me back to some times in my life that were SO much fun.  "Do you believe we DID that?" is a common question we keep asking each other.  It's almost as if no time has passed at all.

There is a group for people that have just grown up on Long Island.  Another wonderful group I stumbled on:  Six Degrees of Separation (you know I joined that one : ).  I have located long lost cousins and even one client that I had done many years ago.

There is rarely a time that I don't check my email and see there's a note or message for me.  And I have to go check it out.

I'm still learning my way around.  In just a few days I can't quite BELIEVE how many connections I have made and how much FUN I've been having!  If you've put off Facebook because you just can't handle another site, you'll love it.  And your Activerain family will be right there to welcome you!

Carole- I...must...resist...Facebook! :-) As it is, AR takes up a lot of my time and I have so many other things that I also want to do. I would love to have more time to read, scrapbook, relax and watch TV or movies. Between work, the kids and the household (oh yea and AR), I still can't seem to fit it all in! Maybe when the kids are a little older and more self-sufficient.

I have to say that I have had more friends email me or tell me about Facebook in the last 3 months than they have in the last few years before that! Hopefully, it will be around for a while and I will not totally miss the boat! Enjoy!

Carole, When I figured out that my AR friends were on FB, it kind of made it all come together for me.  Then when I found my long lost friends from school, I just started having a blast.  But like Libby said, it is all very time consuming.

Carole, I too resisted Facebook for forever.  Just recently joined along with Twitter and I'm amazed at how much I enjoy it.  Don't really understand it yet but I too am very pleasantly surprised.

Carole-I have reconnected to an old friend of mine on Facebook too. We were very close in school and then she moved away. It was great being able to talk with her again.

Hi Carole-I'm having a hard time keeping up with everything now so Facebook for me will have ot wait. I 'm so far behind and am trying to catch up with all my favs. I hope Facebook works well for you. I do know there are a lot of folks that are on it not to mention Twitter. It was great chatting again. Take care and have a great Fri and weekend. I love your gorgeous flower on one of your previous posts that I scanned. :-)

Carole, I am enjoying facebook and reading the daily updates and links from others, but like many here the other invitiations (parties, nudges, etc) are confusing the heck out of me!

Hope your weekend is fun and sunny Carole!

FB is fun.  I connected with many old friends and, through one of those connections, I found the first boy I ever kissed.  It brought back many sweet memories and I am proud of the man he has become.  I had been under the impression I kept in touch with people who touched my life.  I was wrong.  It is truly amazing.

Carole--FB was eyeopening for me as well. When I set up my profile, the first 4-5 people to "friend" me were clients! Great way to keep in touch. I have connections with several clients on Linkedin as well. Takes time to keep them all up but worth it.

Carole ~ It's fantastic isn't it?  My sisters and I found out we have a cousin we never even knew existed!  We reconnected with another cousin that we haven't seen in years.  My sisters have reconnected with people from school as well (although I have no desire to go that far - I hated high school).

Carole,

I enjoy FB for the opportunity it gives me to keep in closer touch with my sons (young people are especially hooked on FB and use it costantly) and also, like you, have found some old high school friends (well, they found me) that I hadn't spoke to in years. Such a small world we live in.

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it....

Hi Carole - I was happy to see you found me on Facebook.  It's a lot of fun and it is truly amazing who you can find there.

Libby, Facebook is not going anywhere and I thought the same exact thing--I don't have time!  But I have to tell you, I haven't even begun on there and it's SO much fun.  We'll all wait for you, promise.

Audrey, It is so much fun catching up with everyone.  These are people from Grammer school all over the county.  With Spring finally here, I won't be on much but I have to say I love it.

Tom, I do remember when my KIDS were using it.   Seems EVERYONE is on there now!

Kate, I don't understand it yet either but I do know I am finding people that I thought I would never see again.   I'm having a blast over there!

Laura, Isn't it wonderful the people you find.  And then they know someone who you know as well...and the list goes on.  I love it.

LIz, That's amazing about your ex.  I don't "get" facebook yet (and I certainly don't get Twitter) but I am having fun finding all these people.

Cheryl, Isn't it amazing?  It does sort of make it a "tiny" world and I can't believe who I've seen in just a few days....I can't imagine when I actually LEARN the site!

Sharon, I heard (over and over) it would be good for business and I too did not want another site...but no one told me how much FUN it was.   I am sleeping less :)

Kris, I haven't even looked into those yet....I will probably get to them one day but just signing on and finding all those people is a bit overwhelming--and FUN!

Melody, That is a lovely connection!  I sometimes believe we "accidently" disconnect, what an amazing place and it seems like we pick up right where we left off.

Teri, It will take time to learn it but right now I am trying to keep up with all the new connections (I should say "old" connections).  It is a lovely way to stay in touch.

Kathy, I happened to see you had a wonderful talk--on Facebook!  How much fun that was and I knew you would!  I loved High School and had so many friends I've lost touch with.

Hannah, In all honesty, you probably won't :)  But I can almost GUARANTEE you will have fun on there.  I would have signed up a long time ago if I had known.

Connie, Look for me :)  I think you will love it and I have to say I was dreading another site but I can't believe the people I am finding--or that are finding me.  I'd say go for it!

Jo, I don't know how to spend my time these days :)  I am trying to do a little of everything but for right now I love it there and have found (or been found) by some terrific people!

Chris, I somehow didn't think it would be so much FUN.  I thought of another thing I "had" to do....it's so much fun and there are already so many people from AR on there!

Christine, It IS a lot to keep up with...but finding old and new friends is so much fun (and I can't imagine how much better it will be when I learn it!).

Cathy, It's true, they ARE fun.  I thought it was just going to be something else I signed up for and didn't use.

Jennifer, I was happy to find you, too...and so many other Activerainers!  Had I known I would have signed up a long time ago.

Joan, I do, I didn't know so many people from here were on there!  And old friends, how nice to "see" them again.

Sheldon, You are never safe while I am around.  Besides, I know where to find you---Target :)

Carole - I had put off joining Facebook for some time...then one day just figured what the heck...it can't hurt.  It was so great to have another way to connect with all of my friends in Active Rain and rekindle relationships with long lost friends from high school.  My whole family is on FB now and it's such a fun way to communicate with each other! :)

Carole, I have enjoyed facebook also.  I have only been able to connect with a few people from my past though.  I've connected with my Uncle's ex-wife from back in the 1960's and a cousin.  I keep looking for an elementary school friend but alas I don't think I have enough information to find her.  It is hard to find women friends as we change our name.

Carole - Awesome story !  A lot of the sites can be exhausting to join and spend time on but Facebook certainly is one of the premier ones due to the reasons you mentioned.  Glad you are having fun and success !  AND it is only the beginning : )

Carole -- Facebook has been amazing to me.  I had no idea I would enjoy it so much either.  And as you say the surpizes!  People from High school - no one from Jr high yet! Staying touch with what clients are doing has been great and means I can meaningfully be in touch with them.

Carole, I have been avoiding Facebook like the plague (not to mention others as well) ... but after reading you, I'm so tempted.... but you said another thing that scares me.  "It's so much fun."
How will I ever find time to keep up with everything?

I'll go have a peak ... :)

Goodness, Am I late getting back to this!  I apologize!

Donna, I haven't had that much time for it but I can't believe how many long lost friends I've found...and how nice it is to be in touch again!  I was expecting a business site and it's much more then that.

Marchel, I have found a few...they have their name listed with their maiden name in the middle...those searches can be long and it's a silly question but have you tried Googling her?  I am sometimes surprised at what I find on there!  Good luck, I hope you find her.

Christopher and Stephanie, I can't believe it's only been a week---and don't get there nearly as much as I'd like but I have found old friends who bring up some of the best memories!

Alexsandra, We only had two elementary schools so when I think about it, some of these people went back to when we were REALLY little :)  They'll write something and it brings back an instant memory--I am really enjoying it the short time I've been on.

Elaine, Thank you, I've missed you as well.  I hope to be able to spend more time there, it would be nice to figure it out but for now it's just FUN.

Sylvie,  You really don't have to spend that much time on it.  I was avoiding it -- I didn't want to learn another site or sign up for another thing.  But you will find people you would never expect and it's nice to have such a good time!  Let me know if you sign up.

Bill, I have too and I'm really enjoying the "old" friends I've reconnected with.  I remember all the wonderful times we had!

Russel, I don't know why I have never signed onto classmates--but after being on Facebook, it's my next project.  I am having so much fun with long lost friends, I'd love to find more.

Paddy, I'm grateful too.  And I have to say it was wonderful to have my AR friends greet me when I signed on...what a nice feeling!

Rich, There are distractions all right--I am enjoying the whole thing and am going to try to find a little more time for it.

Glad to hear you are on Facebook! It's been a lot of fun for business and for old friends. I found my college roommate that I haven't seen in 12+ years. It's been so much fun reconnecting with her, just like we were never apart.

Monica and Ray, Now I've been helping friends sign up--not that I have a clue what I'm doing yet but it's fun!

Eileen, I'm still learning the site and then get caught up in some of the OTHER groups on there...or a game.  I'm on there entirely too often :)

Georgina, It's so much fun, isn't it?  I love reconnecting with people and have gotten more calls from old friends--what a nice feeling :)

Cristal, I am having such a great time....I'd be on more except it keeps freezing my computer :)  I don't have it on my phone, thank goodness!  I'd never get anything done!
