Two Redding Eagles have Hatched This Week - One To Go

By

Reddings resident Eagles have hatched two of the three eggs that were laid this winter.  Our eagles, Patiot and Liberty, became celebrities when CalTrans tried to move their nest in 2007 by putting a giant cone over it.

Public outcry saved the nest and we now have our Live Eagle Cam to watch during Daylight hours.

Eagle One, which was laid on February 6th, hatched on March 17th

Eagle Two, which was laid on February 9th, hatched today March 19th.

The third egg was laid on February 13th is still being incubated by the eagles.  Watch when mom and dad take off out of the nest - they curl their talons under so as not to damage the egg.

Expect lots of activity now that the babies have been born.

I'll be going by and getting some pictures tomorrow morning.  I just love it when I drive by there and the eagles fly over, it's so majestic.

Kate:  That is just wonderful.  To have such a grand part of nature so close to you is just the greatest thing.  I am going to click on the Eagle Cam link and take a peek.  I sure hope Patriot and Liberty won't mind.  Thanks for sharing.

It is also cool that the first egg was laid on February 6th... my 65 birthday.  So... Happy Birthday to both of us !

By the way... I just clicked on the address link below your picture, and saw that you are on the edge of the Mt Shasta National Forest... (I think).  I drove through there on my drive from DFW to Portland in 1999... and honestly found it to be one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen.  It was also fun keeping track of that single railroad track that wound its way along highway 5 and through the forest.  Truly beautiful country !

Carole, we take eagles for granted up here.  We spend lots of time on Shasta Lake and it's breathtaking to watch them fly over.  Every now again we are lucky enough to watch them dive into the water to catch a fish.

Karen - we'll have to name that baby eagle Karen after you.  Yep you have the right place.  It is truly beautiful up here.

Mike thanks.   I hope you were able to watch the cam. I got to watch the parents feed the babies the other day.  It is so kewl to watch.

Kate - That must be awesome to see the wonders of nature so close.  We do not see eagles here that close and it's really nice of you to post this.  Thanks.
