... are the infamous lines that start the preamble to our Constitution. But, are the voices of WE, the People, really being heard or they just falling on deaf ears as Congress goes on about its merry way conducting "business as usual" selfishly promoting and pursuing their agendas instead of what is best for We the People?

Currently, We the People, are in the throws of an economic crisis that is jeopardizing the livelihood of hundreds of thousands of fellow Americans. Unemployment is on the rise, the real estate market is in a shambles, the stock market is down, pensions and IRA's are down the tubes, and we are being stimulated to the tune of trillions of tax payer dollars. All the while, We the People, like little children, are being taken by the hand by our Congressional Parents, turned around, given a pat on the butt and a lollipop, while they say, trust me, I know what is best for YOU. Do they really?

When are We the People, going to take a stand and say enough is enough! We the People, are tired of "Business as Usual" around the beltway. We the People, are tired of the constant lies, "earmarks" or pork barrel spending, infidelity, cheating, tax evasion, double standards, above-the-law mentality, bailouts, and the blatant disregard for the Constitution which is the very backbone of this nation. The backbone which was built upon belief in the Creator and the moral fiber of our Forefathers. Isn't it about time that We the People, have an eyeball to eyeball with our Representatives and let them know that we have had enough? It is time for a change we can believe in all right, it is time that our elected officials listened to We the People.

I am not advocating civil disobedience and blatant disregard for our laws, but I am advocating calls and letters to our Representatives on Capitol Hill. It is time that We the People, let our voices be heard. It is about time that We the People, let them know that We the People, are the ones that put them in office and We the People, can and will remove them. If Congress is smart, they will listen to the voices of We the People...

Just had to add my 2¢ worth to the many frustrated voices here in the rain... 8-)

I agree with Cindi. .I was a news junkie.I have not seen a news report since the inauguration and I read only what's important in the Internet.

I feel very posiive about my life, my career and my future. When I walk in my office and I hear someone talk about the "deficit and/or  "this country is falling apart. . " or the "economy". . I simply walk the other way.

Mike, Citizen advocacy is a proud heritage in this country. I know I'm frequently talking to deaf ears but I do let my elected representatives know my feelings about issues. Rich

Michael - I'm not very happy the way Government is spending money. What they need to do is lower corporate tax rates and get company's to start manufacturing over here again. I'm tired of anytime I call for service of technical assistance it's someone over in India and I can't understand a word they are saying. I have nothing against India or the people that live here from India. I just think the USA is the greatest nation in the world and our government need to show how strong of a nation we could be.

Mike,

I agree we do need to make our voices heard! Too many people have looked the other way in oder not made any waves. Unfortunately the congress takes that as a positive and they think the power is theirs and they can move on with these huge spending sprees and make decisions for us they think is good for us. Of course these rules do not apply to them. My life is good, my business is through the roof and I'm not going to make this a crusade but I do need to do what I can in letting the congress know I do not approve of how they are handling OUR money. I thank you for a well written post.

Dorie is right!  Too many people do look the other way... see above ;)

Apathy toward the government is the reason they've gotten away with it for so long.

If it's easier to pretend it isn't happening just because you chose to ignore it... is called denial.  More people do need to contact their local representatives.  We've handed them a free pass to do what they want by doing nothing.

Hi, Michael, Susan Mangigian on Facebook posted this link, you may find it useful. http://pol.moveon.org/aigbonus/?r_by=-7892373-R_tFYax&rc=mailto , a petition urging Secretary Geithner and Congress to do whatever it takes to cancel these bonuses.  If you sign it, they will send a note, giving you your Senators' names and phone numbers to call.

Michael:

I have read and re-read your blog and want to extend my support of your opinions stated here.  I do not see any negativity here.....whatsoever! What I see is a concerned citizen exercising their right of free speech and issuing a plea to the people to speak up and be  recognized not to act out in some overly rebellious fashion. Yes there is positivity and negativity, however in either instance there is also reality.

I will opening state that I consider myself to be a moderate conservative...my justification for this position.....consider the systemic risk at hand.  We did not arrive at our present situation by mere accident. Fiscal/financial irresponsibility is self-evident in all of the political parties.....bar none! Therefore I rest my case. The truth is not negativity....it is reality!

Mike,

I agree. We must start treating our elected officials like employees that we must micromanage. I have never written to or called my elected officials until this year, but I am now on them like white on rice. We all need to stay on top of these clowns.

Michael - I agree with you, and I noticed a comment about bonuses. I believe that the amount of time focused on these bonuses is amazing. Especially since it's 1/1000 of the money that AIG recieved from the bailout. Why are they not concerned about the biggest piece of the pie, instead of the crumbs.

Maybe it's because it's a good distraction for the current adminstration. The policies they are in the process of enacting are against everything any business school would teach you. I guess you don't have to make good decisions, just distract the masses from the real problem.

I think that many receiving bail out money maybe would be better off had they been set a drift and let market forces prevail. If a company had to retain their own earned money, to stay afloat, they might not be so into bonuses.

Michael, WE the people will begin speaking loud and clear when summer comes and its hot, millions upon millions are unemployed and hungry.  Hunger is a very strong motivator.

Michael - excellent post! My sentiments, exactly.  Many do prefer to close their eyes, stay in their small world and hope for the best.  The future of our country and the principles for which it was founded on are about to be turned upside down and inside out forever.  It is not negative to speak the truth - it is your right - at least for now....

Michael - First off excellent post, I couldn't agree more.

Secondly - Until we the people (majority) stop tuning out and start being pro-active at making our voices heard, this will continue. Most just seem to tune out because its so negative.Except , maybe until its a month before an election and then they quickly tune in to decide who can do the most for them. WIIFM mentality. This is how the Government takes away things from us, inch by inch, then we wake up in a socialist society. They want us to tune out.

I say the answer is "TERM LIMITS" couple terms served, then go home "thank you". Then you aren't there 20 -30 years to forget what real life is all about, cause you live in a bubble. Yo don't have enough time to get in bed with the special interests. Then you might do whats right and not what will get you re-elected.

You would patronize us,when we are all screaming to not vote for the bail out, But you know whats best for us. They need to go home. TERM LIMITS

I will get off my soap box now.

Michael - I agree with you comments. We the people do need to take back government. Those in control, regardless of party, only listen to the majority when to not do that threatens their continued tenure in office. But, when things look a bit rosier for their continued gravy train, they all of a sudden start acting like a represenatative republic. Witness Schumer and others last summer when gas prices were high, they agreed to consider more drilling. However, with prices down, as Shumer said, they didn't have to address it. At least until prices go up again.

Mike:

Your post and the comments have caused me to ponder the "individual perspectives of positivity and negativity". As such, what occurred to me was that maybe some people haven't either read or comprehended the full article and its message....maybe it's just a case of "tunnel vision".

When they read something that they perceive as negative their perspective is clouded by the fact that they haven't taken the time or made the effort to digest the authors message and intent.

They see that the subject matter/message is negative without realizing it's not the words that are negative but rather the circumstance or event(s) of the subject matter that are negative.

It's great to write about all the good things that occur, as well we should. These most often will be perceived as positive. But more importantly we must write about what is wrong and action that needs to be taken to make the wrong right once again.  So....to those who may be afflicted with tunnel vision.....don't condemn the message as negativity......condemn the circumstances as such....become a part of the the solution....work to make a wrong...right!

All Congress cares about is being re-elected.  That pretty much happens every time unless there is some sort of scandal.

I am amazed at how much of the population is moving so far to the left. Our country is headed in a direction that is opposite from the what the founding fathers wanted. Jefferson is rolling in his grave. It goes beyond the huge deficits. Morality is out the window. Hopefully the conservative movement will become renergized and take a stand. Both sides of the aisle are guilty.
