the long and lonely alley

Barack Obama (the 44th President of the United States of America) appeared, last night, on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.  An interesting method of "bringing his message to the people".

He didn't play saxophone, nor did he wear dark glasses.

The very first sitting President to appear on any late night talk show.  Just a couple of buddies talking about sports (Bowling) and the world.

Apparently the bowling alley that Harry Truman had installed in the White House hasn't helped Barack's game much.. he's averaging 129.  He made a self-deprecating joke about his lack of bowling skill, and everyone laughed... but realized afterward, that his joke was also disparaging to a large group of Americans... and apologized for it before the show aired.

It's so tough being a major public figure.  You can't just have that "tender moment" with a buddy... in front of television cameras and 5 million viewers.  A simple slip of the tongue and you have to apologize to 9.2 million people.  Apparently he's not allowed to make an impromptu 5 minute walk either.

Wow, that's a large "empty" couch next to him... with those awful lumbar pillows.... (I hate those pillows)...  ooops... I apologize to lumbar pillow manufacturers around the globe.  I realize they're just trying to make a living and feed their familes. [memo to self on BarackOBerry: Send flowers to lumbar pillow manufacturers around the nation... and make sure they're not those damn Tulips... I hate Tulips...       uh oh.]

Alan - I made mention before he was elected that President Barack would probably be the most scrutinized President in history.  I think he will be.  He is certainly not shying away from the public eye.  I wish him the best, yet don't exactly envy the man.

You shoulde write for the 'light side' of the Huffington post! lol......So very true........he's gut real........and stupid things come out of all of our mouths....however lets do a double take - and question ourselves -- what was his intent?  where is is heart?  and then give him a break eh? :-)

Jason... Shy, he's not.  I agree, he'll be under a microscope... although the press has been fairly lenient thus far..  we'll see how long that lasts.

Liz... I think it's just a case of "human"... he's not had enough practice "couching" his language... he'll learn.  He's smart, thoughtful and I'd like him to succeed (for purely selfish reasons).

I saw his appearance on Yahoo this morning. Thought it was great! He will be the most scrutinized Prez in history, and the most public. Anyone has to be in this day and age.

Great post.
