Real Estate Market & Home Staging in the UK

By
Home Stager with Staged First Impressions

I just returned home from a holiday in England and Ireland. Yes, I did relax, but I also checked out several pubs to see if they needed staging :)  While in London, I phoned a home staging company, Home Stagers, "the UK's friendly home staging people" to find out about the real estate market. Steve Kerslake was available for comment, and kind enough to answer a few questions about home staging in the UK.

               London

Steve exclusively works with vacant staging for developers of new and re-construction in the city. Most of these listings are flats, or condos as we refer to them. Rental furniture companies are utilized for staging. He said that the builders in London definitely understand that new flats sell for more money when staged.

When I asked if the staged flats sold faster, he told me that they couldn’t sell any faster; it seems that homes are flying off the shelves in London as soon as they are listed. So the home staging is done to make the flats sell for more money. Apparently the banking industry is helping London's economy to take off with incredible growth in population and income.

One of his partners, Heather Walton, a "stylist", does home staging for occupied homes in London. Again, homes are selling very quickly there; home staging is requested primarily when the condition is “difficult to auction”.

                                       London

Browse through their website if you have time, www.homestagers.co.uk  Home staging is very much alive and well in the United Kingdom. Anyone looking for more info, give Steve a shout at 0800-542-8952.

   London

This beautiful old building is the famous St. Pancras Station, built in 1868. If you'd like to purchase a new flat in London, I heard the top floor is slated to be quite a posh home for a mere 10 million. Co-broke, anyone?

Maybe it needs staging? Any antique gothic staging props in your repertoire?

Special thank you to Billie Tutas for sending me a heartfelt Mother's Day wish while I was in Ireland. Your kindness is huge, and it brought a smile to my face.

Joan, Yes I just missed her. But I did have time to re-design her personal quarters in Buckingham Palace, which was fortunate, lol.

Thanks for the welcome home :>)

Hi Sue, welcome back! I have been wanting to go to London for years. How cool that you did some research on staging while you were there. My favorite tv show on staging is British and is called "Selling Houses" with Andrew Winter. This guy is the reason I got into staging in the first place and I still learn a lot from watching his show.

Jackson, give Steve an email (website link above) and maybe you can get a staging job in London!! He was very kind and easy to talk to.

We stayed at B & B's which is cheaper than hotels, also you can stay at hostels (and share a loo) for even less money. You can do it!

Thanks for the welcome home :)

Sue...

Yup. You made me feel just a tad homesick. But then I thought about all the snow and cold weather and decided that I am not 'really' homesick.

I have been pretty much everywhere in New England :)

A Fall trip there would be nice. But geez. No time for that right now. Way to much work to do here. I wish I could though I still have family there :)

TLW...ROAR!

Billie,

The work will still be there when you get back! Stop and smell the NH roses. We have a Lindt chocolate factory few minutes away, does Swiss chocolate entice you? :)

Yeah, it's cold. We have 11 months of winter and one month of poor sledding.

Not really, the lilacs and azaleas are in bloom and the lawn has already needed mowing.

Abbey Gardens

I am sending you some flowers from Abbey Gardens in Bury St. Edmonds, Ireland. Hope they bring you a smile today.

Hi Sue - you're back!!!  Welcome Home!  I had been wondering when you were due back home.  Sounds like you had an awesome trip - how great.  Love these pictures you have in this post - beautiful, and love to hear how staging has impacted the market across the pond.  I bet you really enjoyed your visit with Steve and Heather - sounds like a great meeting with them.

Welcome home!!  I've been trying to ge TLW & BB to come up here for some time now.   ;-)

Ann, here's the plan...we develop a totally new "lure Tutas to NH Localism" group, and include pictures, sentimental music, travel information...you get the idea. Maybe an October maple leaf peeping venture, or a 4th of July lobster fest at Odiorne's Point...we can so do this  :>)

It was a wonderful trip. I have a ridiculous number of pictures. My mind is full of great memories too.

Morning Sue - I LOVE the Lure Tutas idea!  Hey TLW & BB - think that might work???

What a gorgeous picture that last one is - I've seen pictures in the past, and always spectacular scenery.  Your pics so far are gorgeous - thanks for sharing them!  Use more of them in your posts so we can selfishly vacation vicariously through your pictures....   ;-)

Ladies...

A trip to NH is not in our future right now. I have a business to run :)

I wish I could say that it is an option, but it's not. Bummer :)

Ann & TLW, maybe you should consider painting your car? Cheaper than business cards? Would probably withstand a dip in the lake too.
