Formula 1- Winner Takes All??

I am a huge fan of Formula 1. That usually gets me some pretty strange looks from guys- a girl tha knows about F1?

PlanetF1 is my homepage. It's been a few days since I've really looked at it, so I decided to read up on it after my interviews were finished today. I was pretty surprised to see a battle brewing over this new winner-takes-all system. But then I saw it was proposed by Bernie Ecclestone and my surpsie vanished. The man likes to think he's a genius.... eh well at least he's good for entertainment. I didn't think anything he did could top Max Mosely's sex scandal but I was wrong.

I feel like this whole winner takes all thing just dumbs down the sport. Half the fun is seeing how mechanical and technical advantage can get you those few extra seconds to get more points. All the FIA big whigs want the teams to be on as equal footing as possible, right? This new system will put even more of a rift between the top manufacturers and the not so top customer teams. I just can't believe that the FIA was all gung-ho about the change. I can't wait until 2010 when the teams duke it out over this ridiculous change. Imagine how that would've played out last year... Hamilton would've gotten 2nd place instead and goodness knows there'd be an uproar about golden boy Hamilton...

Hi Kat...

Not a race fan myself, but I like the new points system in professional golf, so I think that something that rewards placement is good for the sport!

Zane- Never been a huge fan of stock car racing, but I have a few friends that are die-hard Nascar fans. I'll definitely check out your group!

Richard- I can definitely see why they would want to put more emphasis on placement, but so many of the smaller teams with smaller budgets will never place in the top 3, so it takes away all the work they've been putting toward closing the rift between large/small teams. Thanks for the comment!

Kat, Kimi is cute and "Dr. McDreamy" was racing at the Homestead Raceway yesterday, so close, sigh. All I know about F1 I learn from you!

I've never understood any of the scoring systems in racing, golf, hockey, and a couple of others. I think winners should win and losers should lose, and whomever wins the most, wins the most, and whomever loses the most, loses the most (and will probably need a new sponsor for next year).
