While I was out selling St. Clair Shores real estate this week, I came across this while I was showing a bank owned property to a client.

This hifi system was built in the family room wall. It was pretty neat, I've seen old systems similar to this before, but never one quite like this. When we opened the bottom panel to see what was in there, we discovered a phonograph!

I don't know if the system worked or not, as the electric was not turned on, but it looks like this was state of the art back in its day. The system was also an intercom and there were speakers throughout the different rooms of the house and you could control which room received the tunes from the main unit.

I thought it was pretty cool and had to snap a picture of it.

Hey Mike ~ That is fabulous! It's great you had a camera with you.  I saw a similar system a few years ago at an open house in NH.  And same thing - it was clearly the house of an audiophile and I was sure was cutting edge when it was installed.  Love it!  I can't believe the turntable - if there was one in the house where I was I missed it.  I would be tempted to buy the house just because of it.

Elizabeth - Thanks, I just thought it was so cool and I had my handy dandy camera phone with me, so I had to take a picture.

Mike - What do they call that thing on the bottom right? Is that a turn table? It has been so long since I've seen one.

That is a pretty interesting set up -- not sure what would do with it -- but interesting.

Bob & Carolin - I agree, if I were to buy the home, I'm not sure what I'd do with it either. Bet it's worth some money to someone though.

Definitely a "blast from the past" as stated by Sharon....got one to go with it..remember those small black round things and the bigger black round things that you placed on that turntable...still have a few of them laying around :-)

Please tell me there was an 8 track behind door number 1!  Isn't it funny how well preserved some homes are! :)

I love this! I wish that turntable was in my office. I have lots of old rock and roll albums I could spin.

Jeff & Grace - it was pretty neat! Thanks for stopping by. :)

Lizette - spinning vinyl in the office, that could be cool!

It's like an old time bachelor pad or something. Was there a spinning bar? :)

Mike, I am so glad you had your camera phone ready to document a vintage audio sound system of the past. I have never seen a built-in wall turntable.  I also have a collection of 45's and 78's that are storage in a closet.  I still have my first 45 record "Twightlight Time by the Platter 1958 that my parents gave me for Christmas with my pink box phonograph player when I was 14. Enjoy:)
