Google rolled out enhancements to Gmail Wednesday, including the ability send a viewable and watchable YouTube video directly in email, without clicking through to the YouTube site.

The preview functionality makes it possible for Gmail users to see photos from Yahoo's Flickr and Google's Picasa photo management services, in addition to playing back YouTube video clips.

This could be a great marketing tool - easily send out a real estate video tour of your newest listing to potential buyers - email your video marketing report to your mailing list - there are a lot of possibilities here!

Here is a quickie on how to set up this capability within your Gmail.  Of course this won't work if you're not using Gmail.  Just another reason to switch your email program.  Gmail is THE BEST email program - incredible spam filter, almost limitless storage, archival capabilities (I have literally 4 years of email stored on Gmail!).  Better yet, you can set up your gmail to send mail from YOUR DOMAIN (myname.com) instead of from Gmail - for free!

Fred -- this is incredible.  Google keeps coming up with more and more "goodies".  What do you think is next?  This is going to be great for marketing as you point out.

Fred- when I played your video, the video lagged the audio by about 3-5 seconds.  All the video had downloaded and this still was happening....ideas?

Connie:  No clue...  it's just YouTube.  Maybe a slow connection on your end or an older computer?  Can you play other YouTube videos?

Thanks Fred that is a great feature Google added. I hope they get around to letting anyone who doesn't use Google to be able to receive them too. Your tutorial made it simple. Thanks.

I've had a gmail account almost from the start and it's my favorite email.  One of the features I really appreciate is the grouping of conversations.  It certainly makes retrieval a lot easier when everything is in one place.

I've said it for years and I'll say it again, I unabashedly love Google.  They have some of the smartest people on their team and every innovation they make proves it over and over again.  Thanks for the update.  I'll definitely avail myself of this.

Fred,Did I understand correctly that the receiver has to have an account too?

WOW!  Thanks for the video info.  I have been sick of yahoo.com for some time. Nothing has changed in the last couple of years.  This is just the reason I need to switch over to gmail mail.

This is fantastic info, and Google is really doing a great job!

I am also exicted about the Andriod phones that they have been working on as well.

I knew what a powerful force Google really was when I was struggling at understanding something a couple of years ago, and my daughter, who was only 5 at the time, asked me "Why don't you just Google it Daddy!"!!!! LOL

Thanks for sharing!

Fred, I just commented on another post about wanting to learn more about using video!  This is a sign...  I need to make it happen!

Bryant:  I would assume both people would have to use Gmail, but I'm not actually sure.  Best way to find out is to send a video to yourself (to another email account) or to a friend and see what happens.  I've been meaning to do that actually...!

It would also require that the person you are sending to has Gmail AND they turn that feature on. While it is cool I wouldn't rely on too many people using it. A lot of people still access their Gmail account through Outlook and aren't even aware of the Labs features.

That's a great post. But, how do you do the scroll of the computer screen with your insert video talking you thru the process?
