What happens if the Rich just decide to leave?

By

Class warfare seems to be an interesting topic for dicussion. Why do people hate the rich and feel that they should pay more than their fare share? I am in no way rich, but I have no bitter feelings toward those who are more successful than I am.

Interestingly enough, from what I gather from observing various interviews with the "common" man on the street. There seems to be this strange thirst for the government to solve all of our problems. When they are asked who should fit the bill, they respond with the rich should. What would happen if those who paid a significant portion of the tax bill in this country, decided that it was time to leave? I wonder what we would do then? You could tax and tax,

I would like to leave those of you who support bigger government with the following bumper sticker.

LOL- The bumper sticker says it all! I too have no ill feeling toward the rich. Why do think many people feel they should be "taken care of" with out working?

Experienced. Trusted.

I understand your sentiment and mostly agree!  Most of us, including the government, would benefit by living more simply.

Stephen,

Been there, tried it, saw the results. Margaret knows what she is saying, and, if what she said is true, then they have spent all other people's money before I was born. Which is actually true, because when you spend other people's money, you run out of it very fast.

The rich already did it for the most part. $13 Trillion dollars outside of the country is the result of stupid tax policies and hate.

If this money was in the country, we would have not even have the crisis, that we have today. And people still do not get it.

Stephen -

We're in a tough mess - it's tough to pinpoint the exact solution that would solve all of our problems.

The current path does have potential - but is far from perfect.

"As it stands according to the latest government figures the top 1% of earners pay 40% of all income taxes and the top 5% pay over 60%--and Obama wants to actually pile on an even greater burden in the interests of "fairness". The bottom 50% of earners pay just 2% of the tax revenues so they are already contributing virtually nothing. Once again if the government tries hard enough they can destroy or drive out any incentive to create wealth right OUT of this country---permanently sending it to other jurisdictions where it might be better appreciated (like communist China or Asia in general for example)."

First define rich. It's all relative, based on your point of view and current financial status.

Seems like those of us who aren't rich (yet) would like to be more than just comfortable. As such, building wealth is an objective.

Class warfare is just another one of those them versus us conflicts...a product of the oft-repeated "tax cuts for the rich."

It bears repeating what Robert reminded us: "...top 1% of earners pay 40% of all income taxes and the top 5% pay over 60%..."

If the rich aren't here....who will support business? The government?

Steven, Like you, I've never resented the people who were better off than me either. I think a lot of the politics of today is buying the future votes of the less fortunate in our society. Rich

I've already spoken to numerous wealthy people who are keeping their money offshore.  Rationale???  It's safer dealing with a government that is not a U.S. Government than to have laws that punish those who work hard for a living so that they can earn good money.  Smart people will move a chunk of change off shore.  Too bad, really.
