Setting up a Facebook Page for your Business

5 Minutes....That's it!

If you are already on Facebook personally and have your own business or work for a business that you can promote...you really should consider setting up a business page.  The first step is really easy....Go to your Favorite pages first....If you don't already have some you like...Here are a couple of mine.

MYBBQBLOG

At the bottom left of the page there is a spot that says "Create a page for my Business"....Once you click on that you are well on your way to setting up a page.  First pick your Type of business.  Then you will need to fill out all of your personal info and have your logo ready to upload. If you need any assistance contact me and I would glad to be able to help you set your page up!

A few helpful tricks...

1.) If you are wanting to add a little bit of more information than the template allows...head on over the the public transit section.  You will have lots of room o fill out information about your business and add any more links that you may want to send a consumer.
2.) Add links at the bottom of your pictures.  If you are a Realtor..this is a great place to get consumers excited about the type of condos or homes you sell and should be any easy transition over to your web site.

3.) Be sure and add your "Blog RSS Feed Reader" application to your page...this is one of the more difficult things to do...but once it it up..it is awesome and will bring new readers from FB to your business blog.

One last thing....Don't forget to become a a fan of Ian Marshall Realty once you are on FB...I will be honored to repay the fan favor.

Cheers,

Ian

Great post. I use FB for my personal use but have not wanted to subject my friends to the constant marketing I would do. I think I may set up a duplicate account to use strictly for the business end.

Honestly I have both friends and associates on Facebook and I get tired of the endless self promoting.  Ok, if I have a listing I'll post it but not constantly ...off to show proprties.....i'll be up til 10 pm working ....give me a break already!

This a great and informative post.  Thank you.  I am going to put your advise to use, as soon as I get my new cards & photos uploaded.  You offered help... just may take you up on that too in the near future.  I think FB can be a fantastic tool.  Thanks again for the tips.

I guess I figure that I want my firends and family to at least know what I am doing, so I promote listings and new blogs when I have them, throw in stuff about sitting on the deck and family fun, and it's all good.  A business-only facebook page may be good for only business associates such as other realtors, lenders, etc.  Some are already friends on my personal page, but then one would not feel bad about promoting since that's what it is for!

Thanks for the post and good information!

I definitely agree with y'all on being overbearing with constant marketing to my friends and family.  That is one of the main reasons I set up the business page. Kind of want to keep it separate...like Church and State...If people want to be a fan and or want updates they can just be a part of my Business page. As for help...DW...I would be glad to, just shoot me an email...the most difficult part is setting up your blog feed.

Thanks for the info.  I've been hesitant to mix my personal and professional groups on Facebook.  This makes it so much easier.

Thanks Ian!!  I've been meaning to do this and you've provided the "push" I needed.  You're right, its pretty simple and I'm currently in the process of setting up the business page.

Ian, recent enhancements to the facebook business page make this much more viable. Easier to build a fan base and updates showing on your fan's news feed just to name a couple. I have written a couple of blogs on this subject myself.

Thanks

Jay

This is a great idea. I set up Facebook and within days was found by high school and college friends. While I don't mind an occasional work item, I don't want to use my personal page that way. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the simple layout. I just read an email where a bunch of AR people have business pages. Now it will be easy to do :)

I agree. I have seperated my pages..one personal and one business.  I post minimum once a day on the professional page, so my fans know I am active.  I post a new listing each day on BOTH pages.  But all other Real estate info goes on the business page. I link my listings, helpful articles I come across and anything else a fan might have interest in! I love it and Im hooked. I have really started getting recognized more by the people I see everyday in the personal life, and now they cannot forget what I do for a living!! Ask for their business and their referrals...in person and on Facebook! Its a great FREE tool.

Hey Ian,

How do you get around the FB guidelines that do not allow more than one account? Maybe I'm reading this wrong but here's the info from their guidelines: Maintaining multiple accounts, regardless of the purpose, is a violation of Facebook’s Terms of Use. If you already have a personal account, then we cannot allow you to create business accounts for any reason. You can manage all the Pages and Socials Ads that you create on your personal account.

What am I missing?
