Photo Contest - A picture is worth 1000 words and $200.00

Inman news is having a photo contest.

"Send us your best single photo that captures the state of the residential real estate market, for a chance to win a $200 gift card from Amazon.com. Your photo submission should be in digital form and must be sent via e-mail or available for viewing on the Web. The photo can be color or black and white. The photo should tell a story about the housing market and it should not be a marketing or promotional photo for a particular property, company, business model or individual. The contest deadline is March 31, 2009."

I can't enter because I am one of the judges.

I got the picture of the power lines in Central Illinois. It was a very lucky shot as it was taken from the car window. I wasn't driving but we were going about 70 at the time. I focused and put my camera in burst mode. Burst mode comes in handy. It works for capturing sporting events and some times in low light situations, or when taking photos from a moving car.

Teresa, is this the state of the real estate market in MN? Electrifying?

I took the photo in central IL. LOL

Teresa, I'd say that for someone judging a photography contest... shouldn't you at least be looking at the camera in your own headshot?

Alan - why would I want my head shot to look like everyone else's? Besides it is a people photo not a real estate photo.

Teresa, they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I worked in the energy field for many years so when I see high voltage transmission lines I think "groovy". Cool idea though. How is this one?

That's a great idea, contests are always fun...and like Mike said, maybe it will make some of us look at our world differently for a few days at least :-)

First of all, I wish you could enter the contest although I guess it wouldn't be much of a contest if you did. Secondly, it is very weird that you have had so many comments about your avatar...these people must not follow you. Finally, what a great idea. There are so very many talented photographers that I can't wait to see the contestants work!

Teri - I asked for a little help. In general active rain and Inman help each other. I really don't get many gold stars if you look at them as a percentage of posts. Maybe you can help with the CEU thingy?

Matt - maybe that is why i don't enter contests and I don't try to sell them either. They are a gift. social objects I can create and share. That is why I like to take them. people respond to them. someone just saw this post and called from the West coast just to say she liked the photo. What could be better than that?

Love the image especially the way the bottom left power lines curve away. Nice for going 70 MPH. Is the speed limit 70 in Illinois?

Teresa - I agree with Diane (I was surprised to see how many people mentioned your profile picture). In a bit of irony, I also noticed how many people said, "thanks for the heads up", although your head is down in the photo. :)

Now that I got the silliness out of my system, I may need to got take some shots of former agents who are working in other jobs now - seems to exemplify things for many.

This is a great idea for a contest. A picture speaks a thousand words, and sometimes less is more :)

Teri - are you sure it won't be heklers in the first row? The first hour is a course we got aproved by the department of commerce last year, the other two sections are new. It is a kind of overview. Really general. I am happy you are coming but it won't include anything that will be new for you.
