Hi Valerie,

Thanks for the trivia question. I believe it was MASH.

well... I was tempted to say Mary Tyler Moore, and/or Mash... but those were much earlier.... so I'm gonna guess Cheers, which I think ended. with much fanfare, around that time.

10:55am • #4

Oh Man!!! I forgot all about Cheers! You guys are probably right.

Valerie, this is a tough one, because their has been a number of good sitcoms over the years and this goes back 16 years.  But by looking at the answers that have above I would say that Mash was to early, Seinfeld and one that no one has mentioned yet Friends would have been later then 1993.  So I would go with Toula, and Alan's answer of Cheers which is still on by the way, but would have had its final episode right around 1993.

I am Pretty sure it still holds some kind of record for the viewing audience...M.A.S.H. is my guess.

I have to guess Cheers, but with my luck that probably happened in either 92 or 94.

Valerie - I'm thinking that it was Cheers, but I'm not sure..I didn't watch it, but I remember hearing a lot about it.  :)

I'm going to guess the Cosby show.  Don't really know why.  I NEVER watched a single episode first run (worked evenings at the time).

My first guess is Cheers. Although I watched the show regularly, I didn't realize it was that popular.

I'm gonna go with 'Seinfeld' because the timing seems to be about right.   That was a great show - I wish they would do a 'reunion' episode :)

I'm going with Cosby or Cheers.  MASH was the highest rated TV series finale in history, but that was in the early '80s (I actually wrote about it in my diary).  Seinfeld didn't end until the mid-late '90s.  I watch alot of TV. (hang my head in semi-shame with a sheepish grin on my face).

Dan, Are you reconsidering your answer now... Do you want to change it from MASH to Cheers?

George,

Nice comment.  A lot of thought went into it.  So, you are agreeing with Toula & Dan, and going with Cheers.  So this makes three for Cheers and one for MASH, and one for Seinfeld.

Steve, Glad to hear that someone else thinks it's M.A.S.H. too.  Cheers so far 3 members feel that is the answer, and you and Dan, feel it is M.A.S.H.  I'll let you know shortly what the answer is.

Tammy.. I'm glad to see that another answer has come up as a thought.  The Crosby show, I thought was in the 80's? Maybe it started in the 80's and ended in '93.

Lisa.. I wish you kept that to yourself.  As I mention in EVERY blog, that you are to try to answer the question without using the internet.  But if you do, you are to reframe from mentioning this so others can have fun with it.

Lydia... I watched Cheers every now and then.. not on a regular basis... I didn't think it had that much appeal, but I guess I was wrong.

Kara.. Seinfeld was a great show.  Can you imagine if they did a reunion.. or continue where they left off when they were in jail.  They could show the before (when they first went in) and you would see them now, as of today.... as they are being released.  I think that would be a cool idea.

THE ANSWER TO

What sitcom drew an audience of 80 million viewers for its final episode, in 1993?

IS CHEERS.

CONGRATULATIONS GO OUT TO THIS WEEK'S WINNERS:

Kara.. Yesterday, Sunday, there was a little bit of spring here.  It rained, but was still on the warmish side.  I've even seen some flowers starting to bloom.  HOORAY.

Maybe tomorrow's trivia question you will get right.. Hmmm.  Maybe *NOT*  I think I will post the one you gave me.
