About Me
I have a unique combination of a background in teaching and education, along with over five years of experience helping senior homeowners with reverse mortgages. My teaching background includes first grade teacher in the public schools and college professor at Utah State University where I earned my Doctorate in Education.
I bring my teaching experience to my job as a reverse mortgage consultant. My focus is on educating the borrower and their family about the reverse mortgage so that they can make an informed decision.
I believe that I cannot make a recommendation to the borrower until I have a thorough understanding of their unique situation and what their goals are. This takes time. It is a process I take my clients through so that if they decide to move forward with the reverse mortgage, they have all the facts and know exactly what they are doing.
Too often, the reverse mortgage is not considered in the context of the entire financial and life-style picture which leads to unfortunate consequences down the road. I strongly urge my clients to get a financial planner's perspective before transacting a reverse mortgage.
My Background
I began my career originating reverse mortgages with Liberty Reverse Mortgage in January of 2005 (now Genworth Home Equity) where I was promoted to the Northwest Regional Manager. I had the privilege of coaching and training loan advisors in five states for Liberty Reverse. I also originated reverse mortgages for Countrywide Bank and for several brokers which has given me a global perspective on the industry and the various products. This perspective allows me to help a borrower find the right product for their situation.
I currently work as a reverse mortgage consultant with MetLife Bank and I can originate loans nationwide.
My credo:"I have found that originating and teaching reverse mortgages has been one of the most satisfying and rewarding careers of my life. I believe we all have a purpose in life. My purpose is to teach, which is what I have been doing in one form or another for most of my life. I love teaching the senior client how a reverse mortgage works and seeing that "aha"! moment when they get it."
