The San Gabriel River that flows southward through the center of the valley is what gives rise to the name for this area. The San Gabriel Valley used to be a thriving agricultural economy. Times have changed and today it is considered a well developed and urbanized location. It is one of the important metropolitan area in the Greater Los Angeles basin.
