N'Digo Magazine "Edited" Dee Richmond, Broker Owner, Richmond G

N'Digo Article:  "I got started in real estate quite unexpectantly," says Delores Richmond, one of the Chicago South Suburbs most successful real estate broker-owners.  Richmond recounts that for several months in 1984, she had asked God for a way to help she & her husband put their children through college.  Richmond acknowledges hubby Larson's great job as an Electrical Engineer at AT&T, but noted with four college age children we needed extra income.  One day, (1985) after dropping off a package at a relative's office, who'd  just gotten a license, she knew immediately this was the answer to her prayer.  Although her career started off rather "tough" she became highly successful in real estate and never looked back.

    SELLING SUCCESS

Richmond has won numerous awards for her sales achievements for several years not only with her former company, ranking as the number one sales agent, and as high as number two in the state of Illinois of which her respected company honored Dee with the highest tribute one could receive, inducting her into their International Hall of Fame.  Since 1999, Richmond has run her own company with her husband Larson presently located at 3309 Vollmer Road in Flossmoor, Illinois. The company employs 35 real estate agents and sells millions in sales every year.  I don't think of myself as a selling success, Richmond tries to explain. Rather I see myself as selling success; selling something that helps my clients be more of the person they believe they are meant to be.

    COMMUNITY SERVICE DEVOTEE

Other ways in which Richmond contributes to the needs of others is through her efforts in community service. She is a member of many organizations but to name a few, the National Executive Women's Organization, Concerned Women of America, Women Aglow, a mentor to teenage girls for the Grand Prairie Services organization in the South Suburbs. Her work there led to her receiving the Women Together Award from The Abbey Foundation. A recipient of the Alberta Hall Humanitarian and Memorial Award for her outstanding commitment to community service.  A member of the South Suburban Action Conference (SSAC), a grassroots, church-based organization with a mission to work to affect change in publish policy to achieve strong, open communities in the Chicago South Suburbs.  The Southland Ministerial Health Network, Red Hat Society Queen Ester's Court in Flossmoor (President); WomenNPower International Leadership (Il State President).  All addresses the issues and obstacles to rectifying health care issues as well as the need for affordable housing. Richmond GMAC also sponsors girl's drill teams, little league and others.

Dee's an advocate for breast cancer awareness and in 2002, was honored to accept Chairperson for the 2002 St. James Hospital and Health Centers.  As a result of her un relentless effort and fantastic support, the gala event was a huge success with their  fundraising efforts held at the Hilton Hotel in Chicago.  Health Awareness seminars/workshops and other outreach programs are held at Richmond GMAC's on-site Multipurpose-Training Room. Richmond says sometimes one has to see beyond the surface of things and people, and discern real needs and problems.  What can be seen on the outside doesn't always tell the story of what's truly needed on the inside just as every house have a story, so does every person, often disguised behind the exterior facade.

    MOTHERS INFORMING MOTHERS

One of the ways that Richmond meets the needs of others is through an organization she founded, Mothers Informing Mothers (MIM) after noticing many mothers struggling with crisis after crisis in losing their homes as a result of a divorce, a lost job, life-threatening sickness, or the death of their husband, etc. says Richmond.  MIM is for all races, creeds, religions, and ages to network and provide support to each other. MIM's conducts numerous food, clothing, and furniture drives for mothers needing help.  MIM's goal is to created a volunteer network of mothers who offer their time and assistance to other mothers, especially those who are battling terminal and serious illnesses.  MIM meet for "Coffee-Cake and Conversation" with sensitive topics every 2nd Saturday at 9:30am.  All mothers are welcomed to attend. http://www.mothersinformingmothers.com/.
