Real Estate Is A Bit Like A Game Of Poker

Margaret- you are so right with this one. Taking the classes and passing the test are just the first steps in a very long journey.  It takes experience and time, it takes closings that went awry and closings that were saved... so much more to become a master.  Hey.... That's YOU!!!!!

Margaret-Good analogy. I use sports enthusiasts as a similar analogy. Ever listen to an arm chair quarterback critique a professional or even college player? The good players make it look easy. Good points.

Margaret,  So very well said.  Those who make it look easy are those who have mastered the art of real estate and continue to work at it daily.  We must keep that proverbial sword sharp.

Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland So true.  You may laugh, but I don't know how to play poker, although I come from a card-playing family. 

I liken real estate to becoming a court reporter.  It takes four months to learn the theory but two years to get your speed up to 225 words per minute.  Not to mention legal and medical terminology and be able to apply them in the right situation. I had an attorney once ask a question at a depostion:  What happened after you had your coronary inclusion?

So many people think what we do is easy. You just sit around, show a few houses and get rich. I'm flashing back to my real estate class. So many of the students there didn't have a clue about the business, and they all thought they were going to get rich quick. Not even half of my class (13 students) are still working in real estate. 

Hi Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland , This is a superb and accurate post. Those of us that have been in this career for longer than it takes to take the test, know that it is riddled with obstacles  and they are to be learned and retained as we chart the course that takes a lifetime to fully comprehend much less master. But is sure looks easy when accomplished like a pro. And you are that Master to be emulated.

Hi again Margaret. Glad you directed my attention to this post. Yep, it takes time. I laugh at the things that used to upset me as a new agent. Now, the challenges are what keep me loving this career. A difficult transaction or sale, or certain people, are puzzles to be solved.
