Real estate marketing and Physical Fitness are my two passions and not necessarily in that order!! Preparing for the Olympics or any athletic competition requires many tasks that are comparable in magnitude to what our real estate profession demands, in order to be victorious!!
When a challenge is ahead, our mindset is the first test. We must believe we are the champions. It all begins with how we view our ability to perform. With each execution, during the course of our business day and/or workout session, we have the advantage of gauging our progress. That requires focus. We must pay close attention to how we work, in business and with our physical conditioning. Success is not a guarantee because we “made the cut” in the past. There are many winning horses who trotted to the glue factory, as the old adage goes!!!
I focus on maintaining top physical strength as well as keeping our shelves filled with resale listings and new subdivisions. Both require discipline, along with focus. The discipline with real estate refers to marketing. Marketing like you mean it!! Remember? Marketing consistently and leaving no voids within that marketing program.
Working out with a professional trainer enables me to practice a defined routine on the off days without my trainer. I hit the gym 6 of 7 days a week, and I leave one day for my body to recover. The training routine follows the same type of program I use for marketing. I work two muscle groups at a time. A large muscle group and a small one on the same day. I market an offline (direct mail postcard campaign) and describe that online on the same day. One complements the other, and I exercise both on the same day. As an example with fitness, I’ll do back muscles on the same day as biceps and pecs on the same day as triceps.
The results of marketing and fitness are recorded with every execution. I have a running list of the number of listings for each month, and a chart that reflects the increase of weights and repetitions accomplished each week to record improvement. Both marketing and fitness can be reflected on a graph.
When I first began my marketing in 1978, direct mail marketing consisted of 5-5-10 because I didn’t have a “pot to pee in or a window to throw it out of.” Just saying, I was poor!!! However, I did that consistently and as my following improved and my name became branded, I increased my mailing pieces from 20 to 1,000, and now I mail to the town with 7,658 pieces each month plus status change postcards.
My initial workout routines were very basic. I worked my way up to where I am now, and I have not “hit a wall yet.” My lifts began with nothing more than a bare bar weighing 45 pounds. Now I have over 200 pounds of deadweight that I pull off the floor. That took me 2 full years to accomplish. Just think about that! Every day in the gym (except one day a week) and for 2 full years with weight lifting.
Success with physical fitness happens ONLY when one is consistent in how one WORKS OUT IN THE KITCHEN. Success with direct mail marketing is as good as the degree of understanding of how the target thinks and what the target expects to receive. It’s target marketing, and it requires thought.
How we eat everyday will either make or break the potential for success in the gym. Clean eating is the best. No grain, no dairy, fresh fruit, fresh veggies, lean meat (I boil mine) and eggs. It works…. They both work…. In the gym and in the real estate business.
Success is not guaranteed…. It’s an ongoing process that requires focus, discipline and the ability to scrap it all and make adjustments immediately when needed.
My intention was to write 300 words…. Sorry for the ramble… this happens when I’m passionate about a topic… and you gave me two of them!!!!!!!! Your fault!!
