Austin has been under seige with chilling temperatures this January and we are ready for the week-end, as it should be warming up! Grab your family and friends and get out for a fun experience at a new Italian restaurant recently opened in the Arboretum area! If you're craving fresh Italian food, this new restaurant is definitely worth a visit! Happy Friday!!
RUSSO'S COAL-FIRED ITALIAN KITCHEN http://www.russoscoalfired.com/
Anthony Russo is a first generation Italian who grew up in a home where there was always cooking and baking going on with many of the ingredients coming from his family gardens. His parents immigrated from Sicily and Naples and brought their Old World traditions to New Jersey, then Galveston, TX when his family moved there in 1978. By the age of 12 he was learning these family recipes. After earning the title of Chef, Anthony opened his first pizza restaurant at the age of 18 in Clear Lake, TX. He realized that great New York style pizza could be made anywhere. From there he moved to Houston where Russo's New York Pizzeria opened and became a local favorite. He was among the first in Houston to use a coal-fired brick oven. We are happy to have Russo's here in NW Austin.
A sampling of what you'll find on the menu: For Appetizers, there's Wings Fra Diavolo - jumbo spicy buffalo wings served with a side of blue cheese dressing...Russo's Famous Homemade Meatballs cooked in a Chianti-braised meat sauce and Eggplant Rollatini...stuffed eggplant with ricotta, all-natural mozzarella cheese and fresh basil, lightly breaded and fried and served in a tomato cream sauce.
The Pasta menu has Ravioli Pomodoro - jumbo cheese ravioli, fresh basil and Russo's homemade marinara sauce and Penne alla Vodka - penne pasta with proscuitto di Parma and white onions in a specialty vodka sauce. The Signature Entrée menu has Chicken Marsala - tender chicken breast sautéed with Portabella mushrooms, simmered in Marsala wine sauce served over fettucine and Pasta di Mare - fresh shrimp, clams, mussels and calamari swirled together in a spicy Pino Grigio marinara sauce served over spaghetti.
If you're in the mood for pizza, try the Paesano Napoletana with pepperoni, sliced sausage, Italian roasted peppers, crisp red onions, romano cheese, extra virgin olive oil and fresh garlic or the Calabrese Napoletana with crumbled Italian sausage, fresh kale, mushrooms, mozzarella and ricotta cheeses with olive oil and garlic sauce. And, of course you can't leave with dessert: an Italian Cannoli - Italian hand-crafted pastry shell filled with fresh ricotta cheese and chocolate or try the Italian Cream Cake -a sweet cream cake with coconut, pecans and cream cheese frosting.
