On day two of touring homes with a Multi-Generation relocation family, they wanted to look at a couple homes outside of their budget. Dad and mom, and the daughter and son-in-law were all anxious to move to our area for its soothing connection to Nature. They were burnt out on a frenetic lifestyle prevalent in the area they chose to leave. Especially, the younger husband. He desperately needed a break from his highly-stressful job as a TV producer.
Naturally, they fell in love with the last home. A gorgeous estate on five acres with sweeping views of the valley and the Columbia River. It was perfect for their needs. We watched them run excitedly through the two levels of separate living quarters. Built-in bookshelves throughout - they all love to read, a media room, and a sauna drew admiration. Exploring the acreage, they were delighted to discover a hammock between trees with views of Mt. Hood.
However, since it was clearly over the agreed upon price point, things got quiet and awkward as we prepared to leave. Neither family had sold their current property back home.
The fiscally conservative and practical father took us aside and quietly asked us to please write up a full-price cash offer. When the rest of the family figured out what was going on, a group hug led to happy tears, and a chorus of “Really? Are you sure? Can we really do this?” It turns out they could - and they did.
We last heard from them around Christmas, and it’s no surprise to hear they are all thriving in their new home and loving their shared life together.
This is an entry into Lisa Von Domek's contest, It's February and Love is in the Air. Thanks Lisa!
