Just last year, I went through the process of buying my first home. Being only 22 years old at the time, I talked to just about everyone I knew to get advice. At that time I knew a business lady named Joyce who regularly visited the restaurant I worked at, and one day started talking to her about my home search. She asked if I would be interested in the Rate-A-Home web-site program she and her sons had just developed and released, and if I would mind being the first consumer tester. I agreed and eventually wished I had known about this program all along.

It was extremely helpful, especially for someone who likes things to be very organized like I do. With so many homes on the market for buyers to choose from, keeping the visits to each home clear in your mind can be very difficult. The Rate-A-Home program helped me keep a file with an organized checklist of information about each house I visited. Certain features of some homes can distract you from looking at things that might be very important. Once I was done with the tour (since each home had a compiled total score), I could simply organize my thoughts by keeping the files of the homes I liked on top, and the file of homes I did not like, at the bottom of the pile. In some cases I threw away the checklists of the lowest scored homes. With the price range guidelines, I could easily tell, just by reading my checklists, which home I would eventually end up buying. I can imagine that at a higher price range, where each home could be equally as nice, the actual calculated number could be very helpful in deciding which home to buy.

In the beginning stages of my home search, before I was introduced to Rate-A-Home, I was very frustrated and discouraged. I felt like I had seen a hundred houses that were all jumbled together in my mind.
