I am a Broker--not a Banker
I chose to become a Broker, rather than a traditional mortgage banker, because I wanted to offer my clients more options than just one bank's programs. When you are a "loan officer" at a bank, you can only offer clients your bank's programs--whether those programs are right for the clients or not. Which means if they don't have a mortgage that meets your needs, they will try to put you into something "close". When it comes to one of the most important and expensive purchases of your life, you deserve to have the right loan to meet your particular situation. As an Independent Broker, I have access to all the larger Lender programs such as CITIMortgage, Countrywide and Chase to name a few. This means you have an expert to shop all the available programs based upon your mortgage criteria and come back to you with the strongest offerings from all companies.

As you probably have noticed, large Lending companies have nice offices, robust marketing budgets and large staffs. In other words, they have "overhead" which has to be paid by someone during the transaction--and, that someone is you. When you approach a major Lender, consumers will receive an off-the-shelf rate versus the competitive rates professional Mortgage Brokers can obtain. As an Independent Mortgage Broker we can obtain competitive rates while keeping our costs low. This means that I can pass these savings on to my clients while still taking advantage of large scale discounts and pre-negotiated rates.

I just wanted to write you a quick note to tell you that YOU RULE! I bought a house with a temporary construction loan from a bank. That loan was only good for 12 months. I originally intended to fix up the house and sell it, but I decided to live there instead. When I tried to refinance with the bank after the construction was finished, they told me that I didn't qualify for a mortgage with them because I had another mortgage payment for the condo I was living in, and some credit card debt. But when I called you, you found several different lenders for me to choose from, even though on top of it all I was also self employed. Several months later, I sold the condo and paid down most of my credit card debt.
